Hi i was wondering if anybody could help me. I got Griffin on thursday and i don't think he's drank any water yet i'm really worried because if humans can only last 3days without water i'm really worried w/ wut will happen w/ Griffin. :( He eats the food fine and the water container if right by the food, in fact he has two different kinds of water containers near food but still he won't drink. Is it because he's still eating pablum a bit? Todays his last day for needing it and i give it to him before he goes to bed. Wut do you guys think?? I'd really appreciate it you guys gave me any tips to get him to drink water. Thanks.

Hey there
I have 5 birds myself.. are you SURE hes not drinking water? B/c I never see my birds drink water ever, and their water containers never look empty, but I know they have to be drinking. I got my umbrella cockatoo in December, and I just saw him drink for the first time a few weeks ago, my first time witnessing it.lol. I am sure everything is fine, especially since you have 2 water bowls. Also, its harder to see how much is gone from a bowl, versus a bottle in my bunny cage, where the amount goes down. What kind of bird is Griffin? B.c I have 2 parakeets and 2 cockatiels, and they are smaller, so they probably don't drink alot of water. It never looks like water was used, besides the seeds they throw in it,lol. If you are really concerned, you should call your vet and ask their opinion on it. Also, my birdies love baths, have you tried giving him a bird bath in his cage? Or try misting him with a water bottle? They like the mist, and they drink some of it,also. My birds actually like to get in the tub with a little water, my Snowy floats around and rolls her wings in it lol.I just wanted to let u know how it is for my birdies! :angel6:

Thanks, your probably right, I just started to get worried because he's young (today is his last day he needs pablum, then he can just eat seed. yay! ) and he's my first fischer lovebird, in fact he's my FIRST BIRD to lol. I haven't tried the spray bottle yet but he does have a bird bath, i think he's scared to go in it though. Thanks again for your help.

U might also wanna ask the person where u got the bird from what kind of water bowl did he/she use. Sometimes they use those bottles like for hamsters, if so your bird maybe never drank from the bowl before...
good luck

Hey Sora!
How is Griffin doing? Sounds like you are a great first time bird owner, its only natural to be concerned. I know, b/c I never saw my birds drink at all, lol. Also, when I got my cockatoo as a baby and I handfed him, they said where I got him(a specialty bird store) that he was getting enough liquids through that, and he prob wouldn't drink alot when he was on the feedings. Were u hand feeding Griffin with a syringe? I forgot to mention that, also. Try that mist bath thou, they love it! Maybe your birdie is just scared of the bath, he will check it out when hes ready!:) Also, you said you are gonna feed him seed? I am also feeing my birds seeds, however, I was told to switch to pellets and when I got Angel(cockatoo) after his hand feedings, he started right away on pellets. The vet and the store I got him from said seeds are more fattening to the birds and the pellets are better for them. So the right time to start is when they are babies. My other birds were already on seed, and it is the biggest pain trying to convert them now, after they already have thier picky ways, lol. Just a little info I thought I would share with you! Glad I could help and enjoy you new baby Griffin:angel2:
