Please help! Closed eyes, sleepy all time, licks ur hands--- do you know??

Please help. My gerbil, Sherbet, is 1 and a half years old, and for the past week she walks around with her eyes closed all the time, her "flatmate" Treacle is getting really worried- she dont no what is going on!
She also LICKS PEOPLES HANDS when we put em in the cage...
she eats and drinks a lot, and is continually eating her mineral stone...
what is the matter.
if you have any ideas PLEASE HELP
the symptoms are: really sleepy, licking hands, eating lots, and mineral stone and also, she sleeps on her own, without Treacle.....

Sounds like she's dehydrated. Take her to the vets ASAP.

The only thing I would think of is that maybe if you have a boy and a girl then maybe the gerbil is acting strange because she is pregnant. That could be it, but if you now that they are the same sex 100% then I dont know what it could be.

Hi Lisaloo,

It sounds like she definitely needs to see the veterinarian. In the meantime, may I suggest that you double check your water bottle and make sure it working properly? Sometimes, a bit of bedding will clog up the bottle, stopping the water completely or causing the water to drain out. Good luck and I hope she recovers soon! Keep us posted. Dana

This problem happens a lot with us, we check every day and always it's a little piece of fluff jamming the water in or the water dries up due to a hot day. Don't worry but check it out with the vet to be on safe side.
