he needs a vet. hams are very clean animals and if feces is stuck to them it could indicate wet tail. being a new ham it wouldn't hurt to take him for a checkup anyway to make sure everything is okay. good luck!

even if it has hardened it indicates something is wrong, as hamsters do not defecate on themselves. also, you shouldn't wake him up, as this can result in a VERY temperamental hamster.

then you should take him to a vet, since lethargy and change in behavior is a symptom that something is wrong with your ham. as hamsters are prey animals they hide illness and when they finally do show symptoms it means treatment is needed immediately and time is of the essence.

Are you sure? Because it didn't sound like he was good. Is he awake? Is that black thing still on his butt? :yuck: (lol)

I hope he is okay! :( Good Luck! :)

i'd still take him to the vet since he obviously wasn't his old self in the first place and there was clearly something wrong.

once again, hamsters hide symptoms wells and the fact that he was not himself for even one second would have me rushing off to the vet with him. plus, he's relatively new and you should have a vet exam done in the beginning to just make sure everything is fine.

hams don't hibernate in captivity unless it's awfully cold. it's your ham, but i'd still get him checked out.
