 We currently have two hammies as many of you probably already know: Gizmo (normal RC dwarf) who we have had for about 6 months and got from a local pet store, and Nibblet (Argente RC dwarf) who we have had for about 2 months and we got him from our local SPCA. We planned on getting Nibblet and his brother but the brother was already adopted when we got there.
Last night we were at the pet store we got gizmo from and they have baby dwarves there!!!! They were so absolutely amazingly adorable and now needless to say we want one or two...or all of them but we have to be a bit realistic lol! There were 3 normal, 1 blue fawn, 1 argente and 1 black-just tiny little darlings. They weren't ready to go last night as they are newcomers and still in quarnatine to ensure that they are not pregnant and in good health.
They stole our hearts BUT the little black one was just the sweetest thing we have ever laid eyes on (next to Gizmo and Nibblet of course) and he/she had so much personality and kept walking right up to the front of the cage while the others hovered in the corner.
Just like always we are relying on you guys for some much needed opinions! We really really REALLY want to adopt that little one but we don't really have any more space for housing in our spare room. We don't want to put their homes on the floor and we still want to have a somewhat functional spare room. Our current housing situation is as such:
Nibblet-huge bin
Gizmo-huge bin with tons of tubing going to a Habitrail mini.
The issue with Gizmo's setup is that other than the occassional nap he rarely uses his bin. He spends most of his time resting in a lookout we have attached to his cage or running around in his cage.
For the little bit he uses his bin do you think we would upset him by limiting him to his cage and tubing (and add-ons) and using the bin for a newbie? We don't want to do anything that will in anyway be upsetting to him, it is in no way worth it.
Once again the question comes to mind of getting just one or a pair. We know from other posts that if they are housed together from the time they are young that a pair is fine but we are so scared that something bad could happen to either one as a result. BTW-by a pair I do not mean putting a new hamster in with either of the ones we have now I mean adopting two (of the same sex) that are currently housed together.
Thanks for your advice and words of wisdom!
