I am thinking about maybe getting a few dwarf hamsters. It won't be for a while but i have a few questions if that is ok. First how many should i get? I know that some hamsters like to live alone. Do they like to climb? I have 5 mice and they love to climb but i'm not sure about hammies. Are they active at all or do they like to play? how do you sex them? Do they fight if kept together? thats all i can think of right now.

if ur are getting dwarfs they can live together but as long as they are in the same cage together when u buy them if u get 2 u have to clean the cage more often so if u are new to hamsters u should get one ,i don't know if they like to climb b/c my dwarf did climb on the wheel that was before i new to give them a solid wheel. they are nocturnle(they sleep in the day and wake up at night).this is how u can tell a male hamster from a female http://www.hamsterific.com/HamsterUniversity/images/SexingDiagramSyrian.jpg http://www.hamsterific.com/HamsterUniversity/images/SexingDiagramDwarf.jpgif u know how to hold 'em by the nap that will work best do not keep a male and female together they well have babies so DO NOT BREAD it is very dangerous to the little hammy ps:i was not yelling at u if u want more adopt or buy form a petstore(or a breeder) this is the toys they need:a wheel ,a run ball(optional) a playpen in case u are worried they might get lose ,some toilet paper rolls some wood chew toys to keep the teeth healthy ,some tubes but make sure they are not going straight up(if its a dwarf its hard for them to go up them)and u.syrain hamsters will fight to the death.DO NOT USE PINE FOR BEDDING OR CIDER OR CORN COB THEY WILL HURT THE HAMSTERS ,use aspen or carefresh colors
good luck with the new hammys:D ;)

Dwarves are sociable, so it is okay if you get 2. But for the dwarves I have gotten, I have only gotten one at a time. They are fine, they do not get lonely so it's okay. When getting two dwarves from the pet store, you need to look out for and get:

-Either 2 males OR 2 females
-Make sure that the hamsters eyes are bright
-Make sure that the hamsters are energetic
-Make sure that any other hamsters in the same cage with it are not sick or look sick
-Get 2 dwarves (males or females) from the SAME cage and make sure that they get along together.

Dwarves love to climb! Put in a ladder or something for them to climb on. They are active and very fast. They like to get out of the cage and play in the evening (and at night) or in the early morning. Sexing is easy, you don't even have to pick up the hamster. If you see a bulge by the rear end (testacles) it's a boy. If you don't it's a girl.

Some times dwarves quarrel with eachother, but if they were in the same cage with eachother when they were young, they shouldn't fight or draw blood or anything. Good Luck and ask as many questions as you want to! :)

I recently got two pregnant females as I wanted groups of dwarfs as they are more fun. being from the same litter they will get along and be very tame.

I now have a group of six females and four males.

The tricky thing was separating the second litter from the older one for a week or so for their protection.
