I am looking for any advice on what kind of puppy, purebred or a certain mix, my boyfriend and I should get. We are very active people and he works first shift and I work 2nd, there is a 4 hour window where no one is at home during the week. We are looking for a small dog that does not shed very much and is active enough to take out on the river with us! We have hot summers and very cold winters here in Wisconsin, but he/she will be a totally indoor dog in the winter (of course!) My boyfriend likes the Jack Russell Terrier and I like, well, everything!!!!!!!!!

Hi. We have a Llasa Apso. She is an excellent little dog. Only weighs about 12 - 15 lbs. She doesn't shed and she was soooo easy to house break. We crate trained her and she was trained in a month. They have a great disposition and are good with kids. The only thing she doesn't like is other dogs but I think had she grown up around another dog she would be fine. And she is very protective of her house and family. But that's why we want a dog right? I would highly recommend this breed. I may have someone come in and check on your dog in that 4 hour period at least until it's house trained and can learn to hold it's bladdder for that long. But the crate is the best way to do that. Good luck. Jack Russells are cute too but I heard they aren't good with kids and have a tendancy to snap.

I would also recommend going to your local shelter and adopt one of the many great dogs there. We looked at the shelter here when we got Mia and we wanted a little dog because we don't have a big yard or a big house so a big dog was just not possible. All they had at the time were lab mixes and big dogs. I really wanted one from the shelter but they didn't have what we wanted. So we ended up with Mia and we are so happy with her. She needed a home too. And we have given her a very loving home. Good luck!

I agree. Our HS always seems to have an abundance of adorable terrier mixes- sweet, friendly little dogs who are all dying for love and attention.

But of the people I know with house dogs- Chihuhuas, Daschunds, Jask Russels, Shizu(I can't spell that)... Gee, you're making me want a puppy- those warm, naked little bellies and that sweet puppy smell- and the way they whimper nad twitch in their sleep and the way they grunt when you pick them up!

Good luck! Whatever you pick will be wonderful!
