I was wondering if there are certain kind of hamsters that have big butts. Mine is a syrian hamster (I think) and he has a big butt. Is it like in all male hamsters or what????

It's actually not a butt at all. They're called testicles, and all males have them.

NO, NO NEUTERING! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!??! Hamsters should only have surgery if NECESSARY!! So if you are going to get him neutered (For basically no reason because Syrians are anti-social with other Syrians and that would be the only other reason that you'd want him neutered to not get a female pregnant) it will cost a LOT of money, and there is a TREMENDOUSLY high death rate for such small animals.

If you are only going to get him neutered for the sake of not having a "big butt" than that is a terrible reason to put his life in danger. Not yelling at you, lyuda, but sorta yelling at Doc Holiday.... Don't get him neutered!! :( :(

neutering, no. surgery when necessary? yes. it's better than sending him back to a pet store for an unjustified reason and sentencing him to death. :)

I admit I took my first hamster to the vet as I was worried it had a growth, well you guessed it, it was a boy. I was so embarassed. And today I get both adults and children asking me what those 'lumps' are. I work in a pet store and it is normally the adults that are freaked out by them, the children are usually clued up as to what they are :-)

Yea, my friend a couple of years ago thought that her male hamster (Moses lol stupid name I know) had a tumor in the butt. Then when one of her brother's older friends came over, he was like, that's not a tumor! Moses is a MALE! Hahaha I laughed when she told me that story....! :D

My friend used to work in a petstore, and one woman said that a (male) rat was "having babies". When he told her what it really was, she said "EW THATS GROSS".

what in the world is wrong with people haha.

Lol! It's crazy that some people don't realise. I suppose if you're little, fair enough.. but hmm. Male syrians just have the biggest ones ever lol- mine included. My old hamster was a girl, and when I got this one my mum was like "eww look at them, why did you get a boy?"
