I have no clue what to do for hamster cages. I added a second level to all three cages (only one of the hamsters use it). What else could i put in thier cage?
Can you post pictures of your hamster cages?

Here was what Kiba's cage looked like. I switched it around everytime I cleaned it. For example: Instead of the green igloo, I would put in a cardboard house I made, Instead of the cup, I would put in a toilet paper tube, I would also move the wheel and the food bowl around too. Here are the differences:

Hope that helps! :)

I have never tried aspen, i use carefresh, but does it control odor better?

i've never used aspen with hams but i find it's the best for my meecers when it comes to odor absorbency. having three girls in a tank can get smelly but i haven't had a problem with odor at all. i used to use carefresh and had to change it much more often, seriously almost every day or two. with the aspen they could, but don't, go weeks on it. though i change a bit of it out every couple of days i only do a thorough tank cleaning now probably once a week or a little bit more. they use one area, only peeing in an overturn bottle i put in there, so it makes it much easier to clean.

With the aspen, this was a couple months after I got Kiba, so I was still kinda new to her and I never knew that there was a carefresh, so that's why I didn't use carefresh then...
Aspen is basically the same thing, except that it smells like pine trees (which is a nice smell, but it's NOT pine) But Aspen (IMO) doesn't really absorb the urine that well.... I mean it gets wet easily and carefresh is a TON better with the wetness. It controls the odor the same as carefresh does... I mean at first Aspen smells all like trees, but then after 3 days or so, if you sniff in the cage, it smells funky! :D
Glad I helped you and I love that picture too! My friend made it for me! She is a great artist. I did the nametag though... on the computer! :)

Oh yea! I totally would prefer Carefresh over Aspen because it's soft and cottony! It's like a little hamster pillow! Awww! :D
