Last week, my bf and I got some of those regular white big dog bones with the thick ends. We gave them to our medium sized dog, Lizzy.....and to Snoop our puppy. Snoop loved it but threw up after a while. We ended up throwing the bones out thinking they may have gotten bad.
Jeremy's Mom said that once a bone gets wet and sticky, it's time to throw it out because some dogs can't digest it. Is there any truth to that?
Is there a bad dog bone? I never thought there was.

You mean rawhide? It gets sticky 'cause they're chewing on it. That's normal. Snoop probably threw up 'cause he's a puppy and his stomach probably isn't used to digesting anything but puppy food.

Yeah, just a regular rawhide bone.

Rawhide is basically just pig skin thats hardened and twisted into shapes. It can actually be really bad for dogs. Its very easy to choke on when it mixes with saliva and gets soft (my old shepherd choked on hers, luckily she brought it up quickly) and can also cause the dog to vomit, or can get stuck in intestines. Especially the white (bleached) rawhide, since its bleached with a chemical, I wouldn't give that to my dogs. The best type of bones are real beef bones, like knuckle bones or marrow bones (if your dog, like mine, has a sensitive stomach its best to scrape the marrow out before, if not, they love the marrow). Many people feed raw beef bones from the butcher, they're the best kind to give, but if you don't feel comfortable with raw smoked bones can be found in any pet shop.

I've had/lived with 4 dogs, all which have chewed rawhide with no problems. It's an occasional treat. The big turnoff for me is the chemically bleached thing. I'm more in favor of pig ears. :)
