View Full Version : Handstand Peeing?

My friend recently adopted a chiuhuah. She's a couple years old. We took her to go out to the bathroom and she did something that I've never seen another dog do before. When she pee's she does what kind of looks like a handstand. She raises her butt up off the ground so that both back feet are several inches off the ground and pee's that way. My friend said that the previous owners that they adopted her from said that she's always done this and the reason for it is because she's a small dog she raises herself up to look bigger to other dogs. Has anyone ever seen something like this? Her urine appears to be normal, and she doesn't strain or anything while doing this. Is it what the previous owners say it is or could it be something else? I told her to have the dog checked by her vet, she has an appointment next week, but in the mean time I thought I'd see what you guys think.

We had a toy poodle that did that, he actually did a full handstand. He did that his whole life (13 years, before he was killed by another dog)
there is no reason she needs to go to a vet.. a lot of dogs do this, its just a behavior... absolutely nothing to worry about.

it is funny to see Mousey..lol. With our poodle, sometimes it would drip on his belly...
As I said before, its really nothing at all to worry about, a vet couldn't do anything about it..Its not a health concern.

Now if you can that dog to do a one foot front stand while peeing then call me and and we can video it and we can share a $1,000.00 video prize...
Hmmm maybe you could just sell me the dog and i will keep the whole prize! That would be the thing to do.... I think... ;')

Glad to hear that it's not anything to be worried about. I'll tell her that there's no need for the vet appointment. It looked so odd to see her doing that, that I thought maybe she was having trouble peeing. But good to know that's not the case. Thanks.

funny, when my pom was a pup she did handstands when she ate but i think that was cause her head was heavier then her body.

Well then I guess hand stands are okay and politically correct (and possibly financially benificial with a good video in the right hands) but does anyone have any suggestions on how I can rid one of my dogs (MALE) from turning his head in and under to drink his urine.. And please don't say change the nozel pattern by incision... that would be too inhumane...???; :') have tried food additives to hopefully change the taste, but i don't think the taste is the issue..???
HELP
