Does anyone have any tips for taming a hamster?...
I havent gotten to hold mine or anything yet, He runs around his cage and bites at me. Ive been trying to give him treats and talk to him but he just isnt giving in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it takes time to tame a hamster, let him get used to your prescence (sp?) first and then once he's used to you, try balling up your hand into a fist and putting it inside the cage and just let it rest there and let him come over and sniff you out (balled up fist is so he won't be able to bite or nip your fingers...) if he tries to bite, don't jerk away or else he's gunna get even more scared and skittish and once that's all good, try either luring him into your hand with treats or try putting on a glove so if he does bite you won't jerk away n he won't fall.. hope i helped =)

It can take time but you must perservere daily.I'm now on my fourth hamster and he was the most difficult to train.I thought I'd fail with him as he was a real little biter, drew blood more times than I'd care to mention. He was a tiny little guy but made up for it with attitude, maybe had to fight his corner in the litter. He's now a sweet little hammy, friendly, but still a little cautious.I used a coffee mug to scoop him up at first rather than my hands,he felt safe and I could easily pop him back into the cage, then I moved onto toilet or kitchen rolls,he walked into them, you pick them up then you can put them on your lap, with a thick towel covering it,those little teeth are sharp!Present food at all times, try not to react too much when bitten(difficut I know!)You'll get there, with a few sticking plasters.:D

when i tame my hamster i feed them treats on the way home from the petstore, with my current hamster i fed him little pieces of french fries on the way home from the pet store and he is just a loving little guy, with my first hamster i just got really excited and held him right away and he was the sweetest hamster i have ever had i never once have gotten bitten by my hamsters.
