yes, I lease a pony to ride. Are you Shedding the horses now? The pony I ride is a hero to the birds, because I shed him in the field and then all the birds come and pick up his hair for nests! He is actually dun, but we thought he was buckskin for some time. He LOVES jumping! It is his fav thing to do( other than eat).

oh, no actually i'm doing a half lease. In a full lease you have to pay for the food and the riding. My mom pays for the riding only.(LOL I dont think i have that much money:D )

Aww... that stinks, especialy if you've got a horse...

How much would you say it cost to keep and take care of a horse for a month?

rodent boy, hello and welcome! i'm sure you'll fit in quite well around these forums, as horses ARE the most wonderful creatures.

anyway i belive you were probobly talking to shemmyboy when you asked, but i think i'll answer your question anyway if you don't mind.

it can cost anywhere from $50-$3000 (yes very high) to board a horse every month, depending on where you live. i know a friend who lives in Manhatten or some big city like that and she boards her horse for 3,000 or close to it. however if you live in a less developed area pasture board can be as low as $50.00

but boarding isn't the only thing you'd have to worry about, i'd say set aside about $100 for vet and farrier each month and then a certain amount for other things.

also, lovechick - you can lease a horse even if your not in 4-h. i lease a horse, Dakotah, through his personal owners and no one at my barn even knows about it! lol. but yeah, just let me know if you want more info. on leasing.

yeah, i'd love more information on that!!!! Can u take the horse home or something, cause I really wanna buy a horse, but I know right now, I cant, cause I need a job to afford one, But we have 1 acre of land, not fenced yet, but will be soon. So I think it would be nice to take a horse for some time, and see if I can handle the responsobility. Is leasing like a program? do all the barns have it? well at the barn where I work, theres a riding school, and boarding place, I take lessons once a week, for 1 hour, but its so not enough, it leaves me so anxious and wanting more, besides the school horse I ride is really old.

Thanks again!!!

you can take the horse home or have to keep it at a stable, depending on who your leasing from and what type of lease it is. a half lease is where you get to ride the horse about 3 days a week and you keep it at the designated stable, paiyng about 1/2 the board and sometimes have the other bills.

a full lease is where you get total control of the horse, usually you'll pay about 30% of what the horse is worth. so if it was worth 30,000 you'd pay 10,000 a year.
