My friend's husky/lab mix who is....oh, 7 months old I'm guessing has been vomitting lately....once a day since Sunday, usually in the morning...an normally just clear liquid (occasionally yellow bile). She has been sleeping more lately, but otherwise acting normal...normal stool habits, normal eating habits, normal drinking habits. It doesn't happen after drinking, after eating, or after playing. She eats Nutro dog food...any ideas?? The only thing she has gotten that is NOT part of her diet is a piece of cheese on Sunday evening (she vomitted earlier that day) and cheetos last night...both of this was happening and my friend didn't realize it, then told her friends to STOP feeding Cantrell. Hasn't had any rawhide recently, or gotten into anything....

Could be the food, nutro - although good no preservative and all, has lots of grainsl. The pooch could be having a problem with grain and carbs.
Hope all is well.

I would say take a trip to the vet. She could have ingested something that she cant digest of gotten into medication or chemicals. It is rather to be safe than sorry

Nutro did the same thing to my Mia. Then I switched her to Flint River Ranch and we haven't had any problems since. But I also agree with Rotty. A trip to the vet wouldn't hurt. You never know. Good luck.

Thanks everyone...she called the vet...they said to keep an eye on her and make sure she gets no table scraps. So we'll see....

I bet I know what it is. Our Jess had the same problem.
It is caused by the stomach becoming too acidic when too much time is left between meals and normally afflicts dogs who are only fed once a day although, I suppose it could afflict a pup who is fed more often but not often enough.
I got rid of the problem by feeding my adult dogs twice a day instead of once.
Dogs, like people, have different metabolic rates. I have a fast metabolic rate like my dogs so I know what it's like and it's not uncommon for me to feel sick if I don't eat every few hours.
Those dogs with faster metabolic rates, normally more active breeds, will burn up their meals faster than a more sedate type dog and you'll often find that vomiting happens quite a long time after the last meal and often when the next meal is due. E.g, Our Jess would be sick in the late afternoon and her meal was in the early evening. Other than the vomiting, she was fine and didn't seem unwell in any other way.
Does the puppy seem to vomit at the same times each day when it's stomach is likely to be empty? If there is only bile coming up, like what happened with mine, then this suggests the stomach is empty and that will probably be the cause. If the acid in the stomach isn't absorbed and diluted by food often enough, it can become too strong and will actually attack the stomach lining which causes the irritation.
I know that in humans, we have an entirely new stomach lining every two days because thats how long it takes for it to renew itself totally. Thats how the stomach lining combats the acidic effects but if the acid gets too strong, the stomach lining can't renew fast enough.
Your friends could try feeding the puppy less at each sitting but more often and give it a good quality food that fills it up and lasts longer.
Hope this helps.

Hi!
Thanks for the suggestion. Cantrell is fed 3 times a day, and is right on track with her weight gain (according to her vet.) So I don't know if that is the problem or not.
Thank you, I'll mention it to her!
