The cat may shake its head a lot, or fold its ear down, or scratch specifically at the ear. Sometimes you can ell if the cat's ear is very yucky insde- but not always- George ahd them, adn his ears were imaculate for an outside cat.

There is over the counter treatment that works if you are persistent with it. Little Tiger makes it, among others. It's a lotion you drop it in adn massage beolow their ear to work it in. They don't like it and I would suggest treaitng them in the (empty, of course) tub, or somewhere easily cleanable, becuase when you let them go, they're gonna shake their heads and that goop will fly everywhere.

Are the ears dirty and aggravating the cat?

I would get a good general ear cleaner first and clean the ears real well. Put the liqiud in and massage like left paw said, and be careful it does fling when they shake. LOL

Then keep an eye on it and if it come back I would consider a call to the vet actually. Or if you use an otc product (not the best in MHO) and they don't go away then call the vet.

See I have been batteling 'earmites' with Marly since December. And every week they come back. I have spent well over 200$ treating these 'mites' (of course treating the entire house is a must becuase they are very contagious)

Anyway, he still has these awful ears that bother him. I posted on another board and they recommended that I have his dirt tested for the mites becuase it could just be waxy build up that needs cleaning weekly. So I am doing that at the end of the month at his vet appt.

Anyway, otc products I have no luck with. One vet gave me Frontline (I think it was the spray kind) andway gave that to me to drop in the ears. Worked pretty good, not he is on something else and I wont treat again till he is tested.

Good luck, I would rinse first and see how that does and go from there.
