Alrighty my mothers lovebird is pregnant, well atleast hopeing she is fertile. We have done some research on the topic, and were absolutly exstatic! She wants to try and handfeed one of the babies (Which im thinking she probably wont do.) Besides its a lot of work. Im just wondering, is there any way to tell when shes going to have her eggs? The male birdie has been feeding her more and more. She is also making the paper we stuck in there more (whatever its called, but she chews on it and makes it softer.) than usual. Her bottom seems to look bigger, the hole looks bigger.

Hey! It sounds like the LBs are well on their way to parenthood! That's great!
I'm so glad to hear you're doing a lot of research, as I know Mom will need extras in their diet now, such as calcium, but I've never bred any of my birds, so can't tell you much.
I sure hope everything goes real well!

I would not suggest handfeeding for the beginner. Way too many babies have died because of drowning and burned crops (stomachs) by people who didn't know what they were doing, but HAD TO HAVE a handfed baby. Baby birds if handled properly, even parent-raised, can be tamed just as well as if they were hand fed, and will grow up healthier and better adjusted and well-rounded being raised by their parents.

Yes, that is what I told her (Not in that much detail of course.) I will probably convince her that it is a bad idea soon. Acctually the birdy was eggbound and my mom squirted mineral oil (Wont even get into that nasty buisness) Anyways she had her first egg thismorning!! I cant wait till she has the rest of her eggs, and they hatch :) That will be cool to see them grow up a bit.
