Hi, I might two gerbils tomorrow, because I'll have $85 from my birthday checks. So I pretty much know what to do when I get them, but I was wondering about their toys. I heard you shouldn't use a wheel for them because of their tails. That you should use lots of cardboard and undyed, unscented tissue paper. I have two hamsters that are in two connected critter trail cages. A boy and a girl. The girl is older so she doesn't really like the male and doesn't mate with him so they're fine together. But I really want babies. And I heard that gerbils don't cannabilie babies like hamsters do. Is that right? Are there any experienced gerbil breeders here that can talk to me about what to do step by step through a normal breeding process? I heard that the babies don't come until around 25 days after mating. Can anyone help? Thanks

I believe it was for my 10th birthday that my dad bought me two gerbils from a pet store. They were supposed to be same sexed but I found out that was wrong when they produced a litter. Sadly, they ate the babies.:( Not too long after that, they produced more litters, but they didn't eat any more young. It was only the first litter that was eaten. I was little so I really didn't know anything about gerbils, but we probably should've seperated them to keep them from having more and more babies. In the end we just ended up giving the whole lot of them to the pet store because we couldn't handle all those gerbils. We had two cages full! I don't know anything about wheels for gerbils but I do know that they have something called the Wodent Wheel. I have one for my rats because their tails can't get cought in it. I don't know if they have smaller ones or not for gerbils but you could look if you want. Hope some of this will help! :)
