Hi
I have 2 cats ( about 18 months old) who just stopped eating and havn't eaten for 3 days except for small mouthfulls. These cats are usually big eaters and like most foods given to them. They look healthy and alert but just seem to want to be alone most of the time. They are not drinking much either. I will have to take them to a vet in 24 hours if there is no improvement. Has anyone else had cats do this or is there something seriously wrong with my kitties

WOW, that is a long time for a kitty. Have they gotten into anything? HOuseplants, poisens outdside or something? Garage stuff? Could they have swallow a small toy or something?

For both to have stopped like that is sounds like they ate something bad. Do a very throughal (SP) check of the house. Check your plants for nibble areas, look for throw up and litter box clues. Any little thing you find could help the vet with this.

Also try something like the canned brest of chicken in water or tuna (but go easy -not that great for them) You can also try sardines packed in water. Just to get them to eat.

I hope they are all right. Please keep posted what the vet said.

If Checking all the housplants and stuff doesn't turn up anything...

I don't knw what it's like there in Australia weather-wise, but I know our cats will go off their food once in a while. Usually, it's at season change, a long spell of bad waether (in fact ours have just gotten their appetites back after a week of hail storms and tornados), or something changed in the house. We moved their food bowls like three feet over adn Booger turned her nose up at it for a couple days. Have you ahd bad weahter, unseasonably hot/cold, company, construction, mine blasting nearby, changed their petfood, the petfood itself changed, anything in the house changed- new pet, new member, any tense moments lately, someone not there as much as usual...

Hope you get them to eat soon...

I took my cats to the vet as they had not weed for over 24 hrs also. That was on Tuesday and by Wednesday night they still hadnot done any thing. The vet has given them sedatives and antibiotics to help them relax and prevent urinary infection. She had a cat that went like mine a while ago and it was traced to a food allergy. I am very worried about them and if they have not gone by this morning she is going to pass a tube to empty their bladders. I don't know if both would eat something toxic together but is is a strong possibility as they love the garden but it can be a dangerous place.
I will let you know how the go as this also may help someone else with similar problems.

My kitties are home now and seem much better.
They had urinary infections (? the cause) and are on antibiotics. They were so pleased to be home but hate their medicine. I have to keep a good eye on them as the vet thinks it may be linked to a food allergy.
Thank you all for your help and suport through tis hard time i have had as i was very worried about them
