Hey everyone. I am new here so I figured I would take a thread and introduce myself. My name is Amanda, I am 23. I have been around horses for as long as I can remember. I currently own a 22 yr old quarter horse/ app mare. I do not claim to be an expert but I do have alot of knowledge on riding, showing, and training. If you need anything or just have a question to ask, ask it. I will try my hardest to find the answer..but like most everyone else I learn something new on a daily basis when it comes to these magnificant animals. :apart:

Hi, I'm Victoria or "lovechick", I love horses too and its nice to see more and more people joining this forum. I'm 17, and I've been taking lessons for about 5 months, so I'm still a begginer, but I try to learn as much as i can about horses and probably checked out every book at the library, and keep reading more, I think soon the lady there will start calling me cowgirl or something..lol
Oh bytheway, do u know the answer to my "thrush&deworming questions"? there below, this post.
Nice to meet ya and enjoy!!

I'm Robin, or "Shemmyboy". I ride a QH/Shetland pony. AHHH is he cute as a bug! I am 11, and have loved horses all my life. I have been taking lessons from different teachers for about 4 years. That's all I really want to do, is be with horses.
enjoy the forum!

tlt66, it is hard for anyone to answer your question on feeding, because the answer is - it depends!
How much you feed your horse depends on the size of the horse, what kind of horse he is, how old he is, how much work he's doing, whether he lives inside or outside, what the weather is like, what the quality of the hay is, what the quality of the feed is, how much the bales weigh, how big a scoop is, etc.
Most of the basic horse care books will have a guide to feeding, pick up a couple from your library or bookstore.
You can also talk to your vet, or another knowledgeable horse person (your riding coach, if you have one, for example) and get some recommendations on feeding based on your individual situation.
Good luck!

"my 1st christmas show"! at the minute it is at the top. i am so nervous!!! i am also doing another one later on in the day with walking and trotting, i havent been riding that long.
my quetsion: when i get off my horse at my riding school, i sometime ride one that is very nippy! how do i hold her so she cant really bite me? do i hole the bit? or do i hold the reins under her chin?

Hi, when I have a nippy horse, I hold them under the chin when walking or tacking. But when dismouting or mounting, you can pull the center of the ranes to you when you are standing at their side, and this will make it so their head it facing forward, but the ranes are taunt and the horse cannot face you to bite. Trust me, if you understand what I am saying, it WORKS! I ride a 7 year old ex race horse who can be a BRAT! But I love him! LOL!

thanks for the tip, i think i know what you mean! just to let you know i did my 1st christmas show, i was an angel on top of a xmas tree. we had a tree chopped into two and attached either side of the horse by attaching it to a wooden frame which went over the horses bum. and dont worry it was horse friendly!! we padded it all out with spoge so she did not feel the wooden part. i came first and got my very first rosette!
