Nearly all of my cats enjoy catching and eating bugs that they either find outside or inside. Anyone else have bug eating cats?

OMG yes, the dog enjoys it also. LOL It's a site to see when a bug gets into our place.
And you should have seent hem when a bird flew in! 2 cats (at that time) and a dog all wanting that bird!

My cat Layla loves to catch bugs whenever they come into our home. I think she taught my pit mix Ballerina to catch them too. Its so funny to see a dog jump all over the house just to catch a moth!:bouncy: She doesn't care what she jumps into to either! One time she jumped right over the back of my couch just to catch a bug!

My cat, Olivia loves to leap into the air and catch flies as they're flying past her head! It's the funniest thing. The really cool thing is she usually catches them! She's better than a fly swatter! LOL> And then of course, she eats them. My husband says they're like a delicattessin (sp) for her! YUCK! Oh well. SHe's a cat.

Recently my two male tabby cats found a small bug crawling across the carpet and tag teamed it taking turns pawing, picking it up and dropping it, and I dont know who eventually ate it but I know the bug dissapeared.
Cats really are better than fly swatters or bug spray!

Funny you should post this now- just last night our Hermie was driving us crazy because a moth got in (we were in and out a lot last night looking at the eclipse- cool, but anyway...). There are bookcases that line all the walls around the LR and she ripped in circles around the room six feet up, jumped off the fire place mantel not once- but 4 times! trying to catch it- and the floor is tiled and she just goes SPLAT! when she hits from that high up because it's so slick! She finally caught it by climbing straight up the one little section of wall behind the door that doesn't have a bookcase (we live in a log cabin, so it's easy for her to climb up the logs).
Booger, though, is a princess, so if she sees a moth, she'll stand on the back of the sofa and cry until my dad picks her up and holds her in the air to reach it. In fact, if you ever pick her up with one hand under her chest and the other supporting her rear- away from your body- she automatically looks up at the ceiling to find the moth- whether there is one or not.
Bad thing about moths, though- what goes down must come back up (ICK!)

All of my cats have been natural bug hunters. Just keep an eye on them, they will eat any bug they can. When I was younger one of my first cats swallowed a live hornet. It stung her inner throat the swelling caused damage to her vocal cords and she became mute for two years...after that her meows were so soft you could barely ever hear her.

Oh, that's terrible! Poor baby!
Also, I was thinking- you wouldn't want you pets to eat any bugs that have been sprayed with insecticide- found dead or survivors. If someone has been spraying bug-killer, sweep up the dead so kitty won't find them. Generally, I guess, cats like the ones that move, but you never know...

Both of my indoor cats love to catch moths. We seem to always have them in the kitchen. They eat them right up after they catch them too.

My cats love to catch bugs too! They will sit there and bat at them until they see fit to eat it. My little girl also likes pawing at the mouse on the computer. In fact, shes doing it right now. :) Does anyone else's cats go after their computer mouse?

I had one that would sit on the desk and paw at it, she also loved watching birds fly by in my Age of Empires games, she'd look at the other side of the monitor to see where it flew.
I love reading everyone's stories about their bug eating cats! Thanks guys!

No- the cursor- Hermie goes after things on the TV screen when we play playstation, too! Boogie just prefers to lie on top of the tv and let her tail hang down in the way. If you say, 'Boogie- move your tail', she'll pull it back up, but two minutes later it's dropped down again. She also likes to lie on the keyboard or across your hand so you can't manipulate the mouse properly.

My cat, Oedipa, loves to chase moths but has to be the worst hunter ever. She is an indoor cat, and always has been.
Once, a moth got into our apartment and she chased it eagerly for several minutes. Then she turned to us and meowed, as if to complain that her little friend had disappeared. The moth was UNDERNEATH her and she couldn't find it. This happened several times, before the moth finally got away and ended up in the top of our floor lamp. It was a sad day for all, but it reinforced the fact that Oedipa shouldn't be let outdoors on her own.

Poor Oedipa! LOL! That's just too funny! Our Boogie would do fine outside if my dad was there to lift her into the trees to reach the bird/squirrel! LOL!

All of my cats catch and eat bugs, as well as mice and small rats. I have one cat, Oscar, that likes to kill butterflis and eat them. I know, kinda sad, but he loves them! Grasshoppers are all of my cats very favorite, and beleive me, we have a lot of the, around here! You can't even walk outside without having them stick to your legs and everything.:D
