I love horse racing!!! I am soo busy, I don't usually get time to watch the races. I did hear about the New York horse that won the Kentucky Derby! What do you think about the jockey maybe holding somthing else in his hand?? I think he was just holding the crop. chat soon!!!:D

Yeah, the stewards cleared the jock. Did you see the derby? it was great. Wow, imagine a New York horse winning the Derby!!!! wild. Yeah, I have been into horse racing for my whole life pretty much. It is just a wonderful sport. Hey, what do you think about the Juvenile curse? I didn't think Vindication would win it, though I'm not much for superstition. Hope you reply soon,

Hey,

I love horse racing. It's so awesome. I want to be a jockey someday...but if I can't do that I am going to train thoroughbreds hopefully! I also hope to own some. What about you? Do you ride them or own them or anything like that? I saw the Derby. It was awesome. I can't believe that the New York horse won it though. I love the sheer power of the thoroughbred racehorse. I can't wait until I acually get to see one up close. I have an arabian, and they originate from the same bloodlines, except that the Arab originates in Arabia, and the thoroughbred is an American bred horse right? I think that is right, but do you know for sure?

Hope to here from you soon!

Haley

hi! i love all horse sports but i love racing because of the thoroughbreds, they have SO much heart.

i grew up right next to (litterly) saratoga race track. from my window i could see the track, it was awesome. also my uncle breeds rodeo horses and thoroughbred race horses (quite a combination i know!) and i excersise ride when i go up there. i think i'm just a tad big to be a jockey - i'm 5'3" and i've stopped growing but i still might be a little big.

anyway i love thoroughbreds and racing and anything to do with horses so if ya'll wanna chat about anything just...chat! lol.

also my aunt just bought a house next to Belmont i'm so excited, it's a summer house but i get to go up this summer! yay.

Yeah, I am going to be a proffesional race horse trainer. No, Thoroughbreds are actually from the county York in England. The breed started in the mid 1700's. Thoroughbred racehorses right up close in real life are literally breath taking!!! you cannot imagine how spectacular they look. the horse i ride was going to be a race horse, but his bones weren't growing right, so he had to stop racing. please reply!!

Wow, that is really cool, i absolutely love the charm of Saratoga! i would love to excercise race horses, but I am not old enough. I am going to be a thoroughbred racehorse trainer when i grow up, cause i will be too tall to be a jock.

Being a jockey these days (or any other time) isnt all its cracked up to be. You have to be small and keep your weight at an almost impossible figure. Injuries are nearly assured despite the protective helmet and vest. There are only about 2,500 licensed jockeys in the US. Most are bulimic and call it "flipping" when they expell food after a meal. "The Box" is another familiar term in a jockey's life, as they usually will spend hours in a sauna trying to get excess fat and water off before a race. The weight limit in Oregon is 124 lbs. Its a very dangerous profession that can only pay off big if you win alot and know what your doing.

wow that is great that you know alot about the origin of horses, too! I studied that is horse bowl.(jeapordy, except in horse terms) I would love to be a trainer! that would be sooo cool. Iwouldn't wnat to be a jockey, though. I know that Bolemia is REALLY dangerous, my mom had a friend that had it. I like the kissy faces of thoroughbreds! They are so cute!!!!

yeah, i know the dangers of being a jockey - i know some small time jockeys from excersising at my uncles ranch every summer or so for the past two or three years. but being a jockey can be worth it - ecspecially when you truly love the horses your working around!

yeah bally, lol, i'm not actually old enough to excersise for real race barns yet i don't think - maybe just old enough. i started excersise riding for my uncle when i was 10 1/2 and now i'm 13.

Which racing collage do you want to go to?
I went to the Northern one in Doncaster and was only 16 then.

When I rode race horses I was only 8 stone but very tall.
Weight is more important than height as i was the tallest there but one of the lightest so I had to back all the youngens. It's really fun and went to pub everynight - especially when we had a winner.
at some yards you have to turn out at a really high standered but at ours you could ride in jeans etc as long as you looked after the horses well.

The hours are long and the pay crap but I loved looking after the horses and galloping at full speed.

that is really good it is great to hear about people who really care about horses no matter the money, hours and weight standards!!people ask me what kind of hours a race trainer has to have, and they are shocked sometimes when i tell them. "you really wanna get up that early every day just to see a couple o' horses?!" hmph. they just don't understand.

I had to be up at 5am for a 6:30am start (was a 30min trip there) Mucked out 9 horses, groomed then rode 2 lots out. Had brekky around 9:30am then rode 2 to 3 more lots out, hayed, watered and swept yard. Fed horses for a 1:30pm finish for lunch.

Get back to yard for 3:30pm to skip out, feed, hay and water for a 6:30pm finish.

Days were longer if racing sometimes only getting back to the yard at midnight, getting home and only having around 3 hours sleep.

I loved it tho especially when I led winners up.

thats y it's is easier and safer for health reasons to be a driver fro standardbreds instead of a jockey. My boss has one of the leading driverss Jody jameson or however his last name is and he makes quite a good buck.
