well i like simply shemmy or simply shem - both are very simple and very cute. but if you want to get away from that then i suggest you don't go in the direction of Been There Dun That (infact i wouldn't do 'dun' anything unless your very creative because that is used repeativly and is now boring). also remember a show name doesn't have to do with a horses barn name. my horse's barn name is Hilton and his show name is Infamous. another horse i ride's barn name is Dakotah but his show name is Kodak Moment. and Baytovin's show name is Symphonic or Simple Symphony - according to where were showing. lol. also the horse i'm gonna hopefully buy, his name is Lil' Red, and his show name is Wishbone or Wishful Thinking according to what year the show was in or whatnot.
anyway a few suggetions are:
Shemmy Winsom (prounounced Shemmy Win Some (as in win some blue ribbons))
Shemmy Winstons (ponounced Shemmy Wins Tons)
Fair Game
Invitation Only

the purpose of show names in general? or mine.
if your talking of mine then the reason is because (i think) they're fun, interesting and different.
in general show names are used for distinction in show. like if every horse called Buddy in the world showed under the name Buddy wouldn't it be a bit confusing?

well i was watching some race, and they have the weirdest horse names, which I have to say unfortunately, I didnt like any of them, there are names like "Bring me money" or "Leap over the moon", whats up with that? some dont even make sense, and is that a real name, how can u call a horse with the name that looks like a sentence..

well those aren't show names those are registered names. very confusing. lol. but yeah a lot of racehorses have rather odd/creative names because all thoroughbreds have to have different registered names and so a lot of the 'normal' ones are taken. but some of the names are awesome.
like for example. i know a horse off the track, his registered name is Kazoo Slew. we call him Kazoo though. and we show him under French For Perfect. it's really quite strange but you know.

10s of thousands of thoroughbred race horses are registered in the US every year, so the Jockey Club must have naming standards. here are some of them-
1. A horse's name must be of 18 characters or less (including spaces, commas, etc.)
2. A horse must not be named after another famous thoroughbred. (i.e. secretariat, Citation.)
3. A horse may not carry the same name as another horse that has raced or been to stud in the past 15 years.
4. A horse may not be named after someone without that person's written consent, and may not be called after someone like Hitler or Jesus.
and those are just a few!!!! thus the strange race horse names

Most horses have a registered show name and a "barn name" that everyone calls them. Its not unusual for a horse to have letters that represent the stable and then a long name that includes the sire and dam and then another word for the personality, color or just something cute the owner came up with. And something else that is interesting, when a new owner acquires a horse that they dont like the name of, they'll just change it. So a horse could have several names throughout its' lifetime.

yeah, and I dont really think it matters, cause most of the horses dont respond to their names anyways..

actually, in my experience, more horses than not do recgonize their name. at least their barn name. i can think of only two horses of the many horses i've ridden that didn't come to their name. and those horses were two yearlings.
