has anyone tried dandruff shampoo for hamsters?

the shampoo the vet gave me for my hamsters demodex mites does not kill the mites. i was wondering if anyone tried selsun blue (active ingred: selenium sulfide)on their hamsters. dunno if its safe

no, it is not safe. it will dry the hamster's skin out to the point where it becoems flaky, itchy, and irritates the hamster. please do not bathe your hamster in selsun. ivermectin takes care of mites and you should ask your vet about possibly giving your ham a dose.

Selenium based shampoos are great for guinea pigs, but would have thought they are a bit too strong for hamsters.

As Dwankrista said, Ivermectin should work great.
