woohoo! i've managed to get hold of a bigger tank!:) it's 3 ft long 18 inches high and a foot wide! can anyone tell me how many gallons that is ?( sorry i'm incompetent where maths is concerned)

i bought it second hand today,( can't afford brand new at the mo) and it came with an eheim 2215 external filter, all for £ 22! bargain! i asked the guy why he was selling and he said he had no time to keep fish anymore. i'm going to clean the tank with a pressure hose(low setting!), i've already cleaned the hood.all i need now is a light, gravel, plants and extra fish!
anyway, when it's set up and matured i'll be adding my remaining fish , a small black moor(slowly turning gold:confused: ) and a golden weather loach. then i'll add a small shoal of danios( zebra or leopard, can't decide yet). what else could go in there? i know its bigger than my current tank, but i dont want to make the mistake of overstocking!
i've been seeing good feedback about corys, would they be good to put in it?
help please!!

It's a 30 gallon tank, enough to support your black more for a couple of years. Congrats.
Don't worry about him turning gold- it's common.

As for fish stocking, get a test kit. You won't be able to fishless cycle due to UK ammonia restrictions, but add cycle to the tank + your old filter media. Stock over a period of time.
The only other fish I can really recommend is either another black moor or a shoal of white clouds. Zebra danios do better in tropical conditions, but if your tank's unheated it's not a good idea (when temps can drop to 5'C indoors).
Cories are tropical, so they're out.

hmmm.i already bought a test kit a couple of weeks ago, an interpet minimaster liquid test kit. could i add a heater and keep it to 22 degrees? i've been reading about zebra danios, and all the books say they can be kept at temps between 18 and 26 degrees. my current tank is un heated, and i've never seen the temp drop lower than 20 even in winter (although it's certainly very possible). is 22 degrees too warm for a black moor? the temp in my tank right now is 23 degrees.he seems ok:confused:
it's a shame i cant keep corys, i liked the sound of them:( would'nt my black moor eat white clouds? or at least have a crack at it? i'm really confused now!:o

as for the filter, could i use tank water from my current tank, and add it to the new tank water ( swap a bit every week) to help it mature? as well as cycle that is? or is that a crap idea?. i've never had an external filter before! i thought i'd also get a plastic box to stand it in in case it leaks!

a tropical tank is 78-80 degrees F, or about 26-28 degrees C.

fancy goldfish can tolerate warmer temps better than comet goldfish. fancies should be kept around 70-75F. or 21-23c. danios need a tropical tank. but white clouds would be good in a cold water tank. they are quite cute too. a nice red color, and the males have a long anal fin edged in yellow.
