Is it possible to split cage with just a 10 gallon aquarium.. its the only one I have spare and I plan on getting some gerbils that aren't from the same litter.

Yes, it is 'possible'. I prefer to use 20 gallons, to give them more room. But 10 gallon is fine too.
Good luck! :)

I use a 10G when my pairs are almost ready to be put together. It's a bit squishy for sure, but it makes them have to pay attention to the gerbil next door more.

It is possible for a short-term solution.

By "split cage" do you mean a temporary arrangement to introduce two gerbils? Then yes, a 10 gallon is good. I think it is better than a 20 gallon because it forces the gerbils to be closer together and get to know each other's smell.
I had one female who was very stubborn about taking a new mate, and did a split cage introduction in a 5 gallon tank - it worked for her.

Yes it is temporary, its to introduce a pair of gerbils together.

Its a good way to introduce gerbils. The space is a good amount and they can be closer together. So I would say its fine.

Split cages for introductions are customarily small as you want a colony smell to be acheived and the gerbils to get used to living close to each other.
Obviously where the split for permanent quarters it would be too small.
