they're all boys and, believe it or not, all from unrelated litters, all different ages, from different places and intros went perfectly. willie used to have a squabble every now and then but 10 minutes in a timeout tank brought him around and now they're great together. :) it just goes to show that it's not impossible.

Hey Dwan, I have a new dwarf boy, his story is in my new thread in this forum. Anyway, do you think it would be a good idea to try and get him a friend?

Sorry to butt in, but punkygirl, you can try it, but it's hard and it might not work. So you'd need another cage just in case. I personally wouldn't try to. But that's just ny opinion.

i would try. i don't believe in keeping any social animal alone unless i've tried everything possible. it may take longer to intro them punky, but it may be worth it in the end. of course, you'd have to hbe prepared in case it didn't work out. the trick is space and lots of it. two of everything, space, space, and space. :D squabbles mean a time out, no blood no foul, and monitor them carefully. make sure it's on neutral ground. i though i was going to have to separate willie some times but with persistence it worked out just fine. your little guy is a cutie by the way! congrats!

soooo adorable:D

If intros don't work out, you could try a split cage, so they could smell each other and still have the presence of another hamster.

I might try it. He is still very young, I think 6 months old. His brother, and mother both have diabetes, so he gets a special diet with no sugar just to be on the safe side. I really hope he doesn't get it.

6 months old isn't that young...

6 months IS young. it's far from elderly.

anyway, back to the original point, i would try it. as for the diabetes thing, it is usually genetic so you're right on watching his diet very carefully. since i don't know the backgrounds of my boys they don't get sugars either. you can always pick up a pack of test strips and test his urine regularly so if he does become diabetic you catch it early. :)

I can easily get the test strips.. my brother is an insulin dependent diabetic so we have that stuff lying around.

well that makes it that much easier. :) just test his urine every now and then to make sure everything is in check and keep an eye on excessive drinking or urination. since you're aware of the chances he may be diabetic however i'd say he should be fine.

Great pics dwan, I love your boys attitudes- so funny  They're adorable.

Quick question for you- do you think I could get a dwarf trio in Neville's old tank (you remember the size?) or would I be better off with a pair in there do you think? Sorry to be a bit :offtopic: on your thread!

i'd definitely go for a trio. :) that tank is a fair size and you shouldn't have any problems. a pair is good as well, but you know my philosophy on pairs. lol i'd definitely go for a trio and i've heard males are easier to keep together than girls. be prepared though in case you geta bad paple that needs to be kept alone. :)

Yeah, that's not a problem, I've got a few spare cages incase anything goes wrong!
Hmm, males better than girls. Grr, I'd adore a trio of girls. Do you think it'd be too bigger risk trying girls even if they're still young and from the same litter? Oh I don't know. Boys are still just as cute- all my pets are male lol.

Thanks for the advice :)

Nah, not too risky at all. Females and males get along about the same, I wouldn't worry about it. ;) Any littermates are bound to get along, young hamsters even more so. Good luck. :D
