My cat seems to be injured. She has a lump on her tummy near her rear leg and has been limping for 2 days. On day 1, it seemed that the lump was tender. She hissed whenever anyone touched it gently. Now, it seems that her leg is tender. She is lethargic and doesn’t seem to be eating. She does not have a fever and all of her vitals are normal.

As soon as we saw her limping 2 days ago, we took her to the emergency vet. They gave her pain killers, 2 x-rays, and antibiotics. After they finished, they said, “we don’t know what’s going on”. I am not sure what to do. The first vet visit was $300 and they determined nothing at all. And that hospital is owned by my regular vet. Does anyone have a rough idea of what could be wrong with my kitty? I am taking her to a completely different doctor today, but I am worried that if I go in with no idea, I might spend a lot of money just to hear, “Don’t know. That will be $300 please”. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know how frustrating it can be and unfortunately not everything show's up in an x-ray.

One thing they could do is biopsy the lump and then have it analyized. They don't always have to do a surgical procedure they sometimes will do a needle biopsy...inject and empty syringe into the lump and try to extract fluid or cells and then check them under the microscope to see if they can find anything. Other than that I don't know; as for the leg being tender it may be because the lump is putting pressure somewhere that has to do with that leg. Since she has a fever (it could be from pain) it could be that the lump is an abcess of some sort, which a needle biopsy(aspirate) should show.

Good luck and I hope the new vet can tell you more/figure out what is wrong and that she feels better soon. Please keep us posted.
