Gerbil runs like a frog.....

He runs like a frog swimming.... I just noticed it today when I let him out for a run around my room. This gerbil is adopted with another 2 males from a petshop where the previous owner dumped them. Is there something wrong with his legs?

LOL, I think it's just because he is on a wood floor. Does he do it on carpet? Or on a rug?

all the floors in my house are something like that, and he wont run on the table so I cant tell. However I let him out with a few other gerbils in my room, and all run in the normal way except him, so I was just wondering if thers anything wrong, lol....

He might not be use to hardwood floors...Looks to me like he's sliding...But he could have something wrong though but doesn't seem too serious if he's running and acting normal...

my gerbils do that when they are in the bathtub, I think it is just the material.

It does look as though he finds the floor an unsafe surface and puts his feet out for balance, but I would like to see him running on some other surface, maybe you could film him on a sheet or something?

Hmm thanks for the replies. I'll try that later today. So far still not sucessful in trying to get him to run on other surfaces since they are not large enough. Maybe I'll try the driveway.

I tried him on the driveway but he didnt run like in my room, just crept around. I think mostly it should be the slippery floor though, when he walks fast the legs are normal :)

my gerbils do it all the time and they almost glide and they can shuffle back wards to or forwards kinda like a helicopter. its fun to watch:)
