I would say its not safe and healthy for the babies to be in a cage that hasnt been cleaned for 5 weeks. When my hamsters had babies, and I had to clean their cage, I would put a sock over my hand(a clean one lol) and scoop the babies and mother out into a new tank with fresh shavings in it, but if you dont have another cage then just put them in a little box until your done. But with gerbils, usually they wont mind you touching the babies after they are a week old, but just to be safe, put a glove or a sock over you hand and scoop them out. Good luck!

I'd clean them out especially with newborns. I agree with animal rescue be careful lifting each pup out as they are still developing
and you may upset the other gerbils. Good luck!

Only clean them out when there eyes open. They should stay with mum until 6 weeks old then go into single sex groups until there 7 to 8 weeks old where they can be sold in pairs or more.

Leave 1 female with mum as there highly socabile animals.
