I have noticed that Cream Soda has two natural wake times. In the morning somwhere between 8 and 10 and then in the morning and then from about 7 or 8 until 10 or so. So, if you play with your hammie 2-4 hours that's proabably all she needs or cares for.

Are you running the airconditioner in your house? I just thought of this- if hamsters are too cold, they go into a semi-hibernation state. You should make sure he's no where near cold drafts.

If I were you, I would not interrupt him for at least 3 days. Then see if his pattern will get back to normal. If is, it just tells that you have been bugging him too much.

There is nothing wrong with waking your hamster during the day as long as he knows you well enough not to get aggressive. My aunt trained her hamster to sleep all night and be awake when she was home in the afternoon by gradually getting him up- adding a few minutes every day so as not to stress him out.

Isn't it because hamsters are sensitive to light that they turn out to be nocturnal? If so, when you wake them up during the daytime, I suppose it's better not giving much lighting in the room. I need to do some research here.

My hammy refuses to wake up at all during the day. I remember there was a post before about someone who played with their hamster during the day. Hammy will only get up at night around 930pm or so. It takes A LOT to wake her up during the day.

It's not hard, really- I had CS trained to be up around six in the evening so she go bafck to sleep around ten or so (when I did), but have let her slide- need to work on it with her again. When you notice about what time they get up naturally, wake them up about fifteen minutes earlier for a few days, then fifteen earlier, etc.

The important thing is to make sure they get plenty of exercise- running the ball, walks on the leash, and then let them run the wheel and circuit the cage. While they're playing, get the fresh food and treats and fresh water- tidy up. They'll get good and tired, spend the last few minutes stuffing and hiding near their bed (at least CS does- maybe that's why she's so fat!) and be ready for a very long nap.

And yes, the light thing was a good point. I never used the overhead in my room when she's awake- just a lamp.

It's odd, I didn't need to train Mr.Keats he seems to enjoy waking at random times. He just seems to nap periodicly through out the day. He is usually awake between 8-10am for an hour/hour & ahalf than sleeps some more..than he is up between 2-6pm for a couple hours and than between 10pm-5am he is up I assume most of the time ...the sound of his wheel as almost stopped invading my dreams.

Oh, CS will get up any time I want, but she'll just go back to sleep in my hand. The point of waking them up early and letting them play hard is so they don't keep you awake all night.
