Cage Setups

I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips (any tips) on how to make my gerbils cage better (i currently have 2 gerbils), and post any pics of your cages so i can (borrow) a few ideas, i really think my cage is sooo boring and really want it better,maybe link two cages up,also i have a limited budget (so a few "home made" ideas will come in handy) and slight limited space. Also any ideas to "preserve" any objects i can make or bought,thoes racles chew em' up sooo quick !! lol Plz anything from sticking two things together to extreme DIY will really help.


I also have access to a few tools, nails, screws etc.etc. i live 5mins from a hardware shop. And im quite good at DIY and have this week free to build things,Please any ideas

Free Toys
Glass Jars- clean, no chips
boxes - clean
Computer paper
large cardboard tubes (from shipping places, or grocery stores, just ask for them)

Cheap Toys
You can get these at the dollar store,
Wooden spoons,
oil scent candle warmers (as a house)
paper plates,
small wooden "play house" items like chairs
Spice Racks (for second levels)
Vases (for a house)

You can buy PVC piping and clay pots also, or with non toxic glue, glue popsicle sticks together to make fun houses and toys.
Those are just some of the things I use to keep my rodents amused :)

You just have to be creative, I get nearly all of my bits for the gerbils from Pound Shops. Anything made of paper or wood (Be careful with types of wood and how it's been treated/put together) they will love to destroy. I go to the little garden section of my local pound shop which has loads of little terracota planter type things in the shape of teapots etc, which are perfect for my girls!

So yeah, go raid the pound shop. :)

Kool cheers i was gunna try that. I also have a new idea,im gunna try and get a second hand aqurium like the one i got in da pics, but with no levels,get loads of like piping and fill it up with saw dust and the piping,go to the pound land get loads of "crap" (stuff gerbils would like) and fill it up.I will also scatter their food (i dont now) and make it all "natural" with loads of things.

I got my aqarium from pets@home, allthough it was new, glass, and wasnt so cheap.

yer did it have 3 levels?? mine cost £50 and had 3 levels (well now i took mine out i dont!), i did'nt expect it to be hat much when i gt mi gebils, i tort mi old hammie cage would do for the time being,but they insisted me to get that at da start so i did,all in all mi bill turned out to be over £100!!!!!

Nah, just a basic aquarium. When i first got my gerbils and equibment i spent around £90 with toys etc.

No, its hard to explain, the aquarium leads in a cage attached on top of it using ladder. I'll post pics tomorrow.
