Hello Carmy,
Firstly:
a cockatiel and a budgie , although 'Australian Cousins', will NOT breed!!!
Secondly:
Your hen is going into the nestbox you introduced as this a natural thing for her to do.
I would STRONGLY suggest that you take the nest box out of her cage as you could be heading for a lot of trouble with her due to it being there...
Hens will lay eggs whether or not there is a cockbird, and if she is in the box you are enticing her natural desires to produce and lay eggs. One of the bad things that could come out of this is that she could become eggbound which can prove fatal if undiscovered in time, so please take the box out as I'm sure you don't want to lose her.
and thirdly:
if you do wish to breed from her, give her a few months yet, and then get her a male and introduce them to each other.Put the box in after a few days and you should have your first eggs within 10-12 days.the eggs will take between 18-21 days to hatch and then a further 28-30 days before any of the baby budgies(barheads)appear.
It is worth the wait to see them ...BUT... its more important to start off correctly to make sure the birds are healthy enough to withstand the fasting and then the feeding frenzy when the young arrive.
Hope this helps with your plans for the wee hen....
