my younger sister just bought a new parakeet, and we have a few questions. first of all, yes we did do our research, but what does it mean when her bird puffs up? she stays that way for extended periods of time, so i was making sure that nothing is wrong. Secondly, we are thinking of buying her a friend. since they will both be new to the house, is it ok to put them in the same cage right away? one more question, should her cage-mate be male or female? we are thinking of letting them have one litter, then seperating the sexes into two different cages. thanx for any advice u may give!

birds puff out for several reasons, sometimes they do that when it's cold or when theyre sleeping, it can also be a sign that the bird is ill, check with your vet to be sure, and ask the rest of these questions.
