I was in the pet store today just window shopping, hehe when I saw these two adorable black and white hamsters in a cage. The sign said Panda Bear Hamsters $14.99 Each. I was intrigued. These hamsters looked a little 'different'. Their ears seemed higher up on their heads and their heads were more broad. They almost looked like minutare panda bears. Is there a such thing as a Panda Bear hamster? I thought they were adorable and I wanted them, but my mom said no and what can I do but agree with her because she does pay the bills and all! I've just never seen a hamster that looked like they did.

Panda bear hamsters are just syrian hamsters with the banded gene, so they are black with a white band around their midsection, some have white paws and white faces, but for show quality you just want the solid white band around the middle. they are very VERY cute, my hamster Minni came from a litter of banded hamsters, her mom was a cream banded and her father was a black long haired. 2 came out like their mother and the rest were all pandas.

There just Syrian hamsters. You can get them in any colour but the most common are black banded and Sable banded.

Yet again pet shops put a new name on and charge the earth.

I thought they were a little costly. There were a whole different bunch of hamsters in a large cage below and they were only $7.99!

Like I said - no such thing as a "panda bear"
That is just a Black Banded Syrian.

Here is my RE Cream Banded Syrian Jasper Carrot.

Man Jasper Carrot is seriously banded! Most on the ones I've seen jsut have about a one inch or so stripe like across their shoulder blades. He's kind of speckled a bit, too- very unique- He looks like a sweetie!

Yeah it can vary to hardly any band to a white body and coloured head.

I'm lucky to have Jasper - he was going to be put down as he bit the owners (kid grabbed him)

Vets rang me up and told me of his situation so I went to see him (owners didn't care what happened to him as long as they didn't have the burden)

Poor lad was just terrified! He's never bitten me and loves his cuddles. I couldn't adopt him out cos everytime someone else held him or I gave him to them he started crying until I cuddled him again! So he's here to stay.
