I'm just curious to see if there are any Tea Cup Poodle owners on this site. I have one myself but I haven't met a lot of people that have ever seen one before, or have one. Maybe shes rare or something, I'm not sure?!

It'd be cool to meet with other Tea Cup Poodle owners :)

Hopefully I'll talk to people soon... also, if you wanna see pictures, i have many! lol

The reason you won't encounter many "tea cup" poodles is tea cup is just a label put on by bad breeders to make their pups sound more appealing. There's only three recognized sizes of poodles, toy, mini and standard. You get "tea cup" by breeding a runt from a litter to another runt, creating the smallest dog possible, which often increases health problems, as their bred for size, nto health or temperament. As much as I'm sure you love your dog, she's not rare, but simply labelled by a bad breeder.

Agreed with Chaos. "Teacup" dogs are not a real size..they are unhealthy runts bred together. Sadly..they are not rare. People breed them all too much..and its sad because they are ruining the breed by doing that.

well thats interesting to know....as for the health problems, my dog is 15 and has not had any. She is the most energetic and loveable dog.

So good for those bad breeders, cuz they made one hell of a dog :)

Its not good for those bad breeders... They are ruining the dogs they breed. Its good yours has no health issues, and everything...but teacup breeders need to stop what they are doing..

Good breeders do it to better the breed, and keep the good lines going. Not to breed runts with genetic problems and high risk of illness.

I bet your dog is an absolutely wonderful pet, but the breeder she came from is doing an injustice to the breed- and while she may breed good pets, in the long run it isn't good at all.

That statement doesn't make sense. My grandmother smoked until she was 90-something, but I'd never say that cigarettes are good for you.

Just because one example of the dog happens to not have health problems, why would you condone breeding away from standards? Just for your own pleasure?

ShaunnaG - that was a really ignorant thing to say. There is nothing good about these breeders. I have 3 dogs. One came directly from a breeder. The other two were rescues but also originally came from breeders. 2 have hip dysplasia, 2 have hypothyroidism, all 3 have allergies, 1 has irritable bowel disease. I am glad that your dog didn't have any problems but ONLY for the dog's sake. I wish that you had to go through what I have....maybe then you wouldn't make comments like the one you made.

I wasnt being Ignorant when i made that comment thanks. I was just saying that the breeder or whoever it was that made my dog, as bad as it apparently is according to you people...made a wonderful dog. This dog has been my best friend and compainion for 15 years.

I dont support bad breeders, not once did i say i did!

I also dont support coming onto a forum for help, or inquiries about something and being bashed. Thats all this place is...People competing using comments to see who knows the most about that topic or putting down people who are just starting out and are coming here looking for some help. Where can you go for help then?! you ask a question or say something a certain way and people just jump your throat and act like your the person who bred the damn dog.

I'm sorry that some people are careless in their breeding, and im sorry that some people have to deal with the problems that occur from those bad breeders. But that doesnt give any of you a right to jump my throat because i am happy with the dog i was given.

but thanks....I'll remember never to post here again!

Its wonderful that she is healthy and you enjoy her so much, but as a whole, many people on this forum, including myself, don't support purchasing such a dog. It only encourages people to breed such animals, just like all the trend dogs that are running around. Its one thing to outright purchase and another to adopt, fyi. If people pissed you off, oh well, thats the glory of a forum, and especially one with no moderators.

I had a beautiful little toy poodle when I was younger. They are great dogs, I plan to get another when I live on my own..many years from now.

And to the original poster, you didn't come here asking a question..you asked if anyone had one, and if they were rare..and we told you about the breed, and that they are NOT rare. Thats really great you got a healthy one..but the breeder you got the dog from was NOT a responsible, reputable one. Simple as that.

I don't post on the dog forums much, but I think you guys were being pretty harsh. I understand you telling her about why 'teacup' dogs are wrong, but she was just excited about her dog and wanted to share that with new people. It's a shame that if she ever really needs help she won't want to come back here to get some from people who really know their stuff.

We were not being rude..she posted this thread, and actually ASKED if they were "rare or something" and we told her they were not, and why they were not. We were not being rude to her, or her dog.

So if she doesn't come back, its not because of us.
