I was chatting to a woman about Charlies' spot (see other thread about dogs and pimples) and she asked about whether Charlie was up to date on her flea treatment, which she is and we started talking about what we use. We use Frontline but she recommends Stronghold over Frontline and I wondered what your views were and why?

i've never heard of that? maybe we don't have it in the us. frontline is a great product, though and pimples would have nothing to do with fleas. do you know what the active ingredient in stronghold is?

The active ingredient in Stronghold is Selamectin whereas in Frontline it is Fipronil. I'd be surprised if you didn't get it as it is a Pfizer animal drug.

Since we use flea prevventitive on a large number of dogs over a years time we have had a few cases where the dog reacted with itchy bumps and our vet recommended stronghold which seem to not cause the same reaction... But I think on maybe 300 dogs this only happened twice.....I have talk with others who have had the same issue of reactions with frontline..

selamectin is also Revolution (also through Pfizer). I use Revolution on my dogs b/c I get it free through my work. I guess both have their good and bad points. Selamectin is good for fleas and heartworms (as well as scabies and ear mites) but has little protection against ticks. Frontline is great for fleas/ticks but you need another heartworm preventative. I have heard of (rare) contact reactions to both drugs but not pimples on the face. Acne is a very common thing in dogs

I use Revolution on everyone and my dad sprays for ticks since the Corgis are so low to the ground

I think Revolution is the US market name for Stronghold as they are both the same active ingredient and both made by Pfizer. Good to know.
