in short to help spread costs. for example if one of your dogs breaks its leg its a lot of money to fix it. However if you pay a small amount each week in insurence, the insurence will cover it and pay for it. it is very helpful for larger animals who need big opperations. obviously though when you begin the cover you can not tell if you are gonna need it but it is a good safty net to fall back on.

It's actually really good for exotics as well. Many vets are not very savy with exotics so when they do treat them they charge sometime more than you paid for the animal.
Many companies also offer discounts when you have multiple pets.
For my dog alone it has saved me tons of $$$ in the long run.
I go through VPI and I have all the routine care coverage as well as the additional riders that I could purchase ( I know I'm a freak) but I subscribe to the theory that if you can't afford to go to the vet then you shouldn't have your pet. So I made sure I 'd be able to afford everything
