Read last post otherwise this will make no sense.
Hello PyscoFalcon,
I know you are a professional when it comes to looking after animals of all shapes and sizes and when you see a person with a website containing gerbils locked in a cage that has metal bars it must get you a little annoyed.
But I assure you in every way my gerbils are looked after.
I'll be getting a glass tank this week and they will be happy.
I wasn't told of the fact you need a glass tank so I didn't if someone along the way had of told me they would of needed to have one they would have had one from the start.
I'm not cruel, I love all animals and only want what's best for them. So they get what they need and more. They have chew toys which they love playing with and sand to roll in etc.
As you can tell in the website they are happy and healthy gerbils.
I hope in none of my messages that I've annoyed you or upset anyone in this forum.
Yours,
Jo (Gerbilistic pal)

I'm sorry too for thinking you were so young as in 1 post or profile it says your 12.
Either that or I'm getting old. :bawling:
You might want to read this - needs updating but http://www.pyroport.com/pyscoanimals/Gerbils.htm
Same you live right up there as I have a huge tank and lots of gerbils up for adoption.
A word of warning - pet shops know nothing about what they sell but they'll say anything to sell a product/animal.
Oh and please never give gerbils plastic or a metal wheel as both can kill (they chew plastic)
Anyway welcome.

I know pets shops no nothing. The pet shop I got the gerbils from couldn't tell me the sex properly. They said Hopper was male and she is female. Where do you live? As you are a breeder if you live near and are willing to sell a gerbil or two I'll buy from you.
I trust your judgement so let me know. Thanks.
By the way I'm 17 years old 18 in August. I guess that's young still but you're the age you feel lol.

In that case I'm 73. :agree: lol.
I'm near bristol and did breed along with having my own club. My gerbils won many awards (Breed for quality and not quantaty) but have had to split all pairs up now due to ill health and we might be moving soon.
Just have 1 litter left to be born and that's it.

Hehe.
I do have the back of a 60 year old tho :(
I feel alot older now from walking to vets and back. Either that or I need more Red Bull. :D

You'd think I had a back of a 60 year old as well I swear my boyf gets sick of rubbing my back better. If you had red bull you wouldn't need your back as much red bull does give you wings lol.
We let the gerbils out to play yesterday they love to play they love orange toys. I'm a little concerned we have two cages near each other Hopper's and Alex Teeny and Dende's now hopper loves to chew on the bars has done since we had her now Alex has started copying. And there's quick stamping every now and again from both of them does that mean I'm in danger or a mating call... What should I do?? They are getting a tank I was a little broke on the weekend but I'm ok this week. :angel2:

They have differant types (softness, hardness and quickness) of thumps and can mean anything from hello to danger.
Howd you do your back then?
I was riding a race horse on the gallops and it reared up but went over landing on top of me :(

Hehe.
Yeah well we rent and not even allowed to put a shelf up! The guttering needs doing, the walls leak and are mouldy etc stuf like that and they won't do anything.
It took them 3 months to replace the cooker.

The Council are useless! We're having problems with Electric at the moment. I rent too.

06-16-03, 04:46 AM 06-16-03
Is your electric by meter?
we have these stupid top up cards we have to buy and put in everyweek if we want electric. If a card don't work you've lost money and your stuck!

Electricity is by key meter. I'm fed up of it I'd like constant electric I wouldn't mind a bill. We've been totally messed about. Contact me if you like @ shy_senorita@hotmail.com.

1 big bill with constant supply would be better than the meter and topping it up as we get charged for the meter to be there too!

06-17-03, 06:23 AM 06-17-03
We do as well. Ours is 2.30 a day standing charge 19.80 a week.
Very expensive!

Far too expensive. The charge cost more than the electric we use!

Good morning Jo!
A lot of people buy the wire cages because marketers normally emphasize that what works for hamsters is also good for gerbils. How many times have all of us seen the words, "Hamster/Gerbil" on bedding, food and containment? Here in the U.S., it's everywhere. In fact (and shamefully), most of our pet stores sell gerbils individually, instead of in pairs, re-emphasizing that there's little difference between the two kinds of animals.
You sounded very passionate about gerbils and I'm sure you're as crazy about yours as I am about mine. As soon as I'm done writing this, I plan on checking out your website and seeing your babies. :) You hang in there!
Warmest regards, Dana

Dana,
Thanks for your post. I love all animals and love gerbils. The problem with pet stores is that do use perhaps unsuitable ways to market products, though I hate to admit they do recommend unsuitable things and will they are fine. I'm just learning that unfortunately but as I learn I can stop any futher mistakes.
Haswells (my local pet store) is the worse for that they can't sex the gerbils properly but now we ask to check as well as I've learnt to sex gerbils now. I'm glad you posted, you obviously love animals as much as I do.
Yours,
Jo :angel2:

Pet stores can be unbelievable! I was in one near me and a store clerk tried to pick up a gerbil by its tail! I protested and showed him how to do it properly. Seconds later, the manager popped over and said, "Having trouble catching it? Pick it up by its tail!" I was aghast.
There were about six to eight things wrong with their gerbil tanks (bedding, water bowl [not bottle] et al) so I called Petco's corporate office and lambasted them in a polite way. After a half-hour conversation with the regional manager, the Laurel, MD. Petco nows fears me. :) However, the last time I was there, the tanks were much improved.
If you're still interested in becoming a breeder, the American Gerbil Society (AGS) has a wonderful chat group. It's an e-mail ring and we talk about all kinds of gerbil issues, e.g. breeding, mites, care and so forth. The breeders in the webring are knowledgable and very friendly. As a new breeder myself (only six months into it), I've found their advice invaluable. Visit the AGS site if you're interested and sign up...it's free and it's through Yahoo. We've got folks in Japan, Brazil and other countries asking and answering questions. You don't have to be an AGS member to join the chat ring. Well, must dash. Again, I loved your photos (and I'm glad to have improved on bad day). Hang in there!

Hello, all! I was just wondering if anyone knew of any breeders in Delaware (U.S. if wondering, if you weren't I said that cuz it's the sort of mistake I would make.). I have checked a few sites but they said there weren't any! I am now appalled with pet stores after what you guys said, so what is your suggestion? Thanx. Good luck on your electric, Jo. :)

I was just wondering, since yall love animals so much, are you vegetarians?

You see I do love animals and this'll seem complicated I've tried giving up meat, fish and dairy but I can't live without them. There are certain proteins and things you need in meat that you can't get in soya and vegetables. I can see your point if you love animals so much why do you eat them but there are reasons. Besides I don't generally like vegetables so I would have problems if I didn't. Valid point though Spud :agree:

Well, it depends on what you mean by "push." I think that anyone who feels they have a good idea has a responsiblity (when the occassion arrises) to share their views and encourage others to think about the issue.
So I think that if someone asks you why you're a vegetarian, you should definitely tell them and encourage them to think about being a vegetarian too.
It's all about tact. Should you go around instructing people to be a vegetarian even when he/she hasn't asked? No. But if the topic comes up (as it often does in these boards) then you should state your views and encourage others.
I'm a vegetarian and often encourage animal lovers and environmentalists to consider going veggie... when the time is right. I don't go up to people and say "hey, you should be a vegetarian." But if someone asks or brings up a similar topic... I speak my mind.

I didn't mean to offend any body. I didn't think I was pushing either-being polite and helpful, but that is a matter of oppinion I guess. Sorry to those whom I offended.

I wouldn't worry about it... people are too easily offended these days anyway.

Spud, I'm not easily offended and you certainly didn't offend me.
You care a lot about vegetarianism and I commend you.
Keep on believing in your cause and never give up.
Just because I'm not doesn't mean I don't think others shouldn't try.
