ok... have a slight problem with flies in my new house (i know about the whole flies layihng eggs thing and have mite and fly spray for cage) but i wanted to use citronella oil / candles in the house... obvivously hammie won't be in direct contact with it but could the fumes irritate her or cause her problems...
thanks for any info x

I personally wouldn't use anything like that inside with animals, it's like pouring bug spray on your hammies, just bad for them to inhale fumes like that.

hamsters (like birds) have very delicate respiratory systems, i really wouldnt advise having anything like that near the hamsters.

How about put the hamster in another room for a bit, like the bathroom or something and coat the room in whatever you like and flyspray it and use citronella then leave it 12-24 hours before putting your hammy back.

Get some of those sticky fly tapes and hang them around the house. The flies stick to them, but there's no chemical residue in the air or floating around the house. I think they're usually only around $1 each, or 2 for $1 pack.

Pet Shops sell fly repellants that are safe to use around animals. I have just got one myself this week from Pets At Home.
