okay so ive had pinky for about 3 months...shes coming up on her 5 months soon :)
i just have a couple of concerns about her..
her nails are Soooooo long. i heard that you can clip them yourself..but pinky never stays still long enough to do anything. so theres no way...do vets do that??
also..shes not chewing on the bars anymore..or her chew sticks. ive given her everything..and she just doesnt chew. im afraid her teeth might be getting long..or maybe im just crazy..
what are your suggestions? maybei should take her to the vet just for a check up. other than that pinky is the heathiest, cutest thing ever :)

general rule of thumb is if you are worried go to vets... how long is long? are the nails twisted... or do they just scratch a bit... coz if shes still a baby her nails have probably only just hardened... if they are twisted it's vet time and it's stresfull... like grab hammie and pin down :( really not fun.

Does she have a ball? that keeps my babies trim...

are you sure she isnt chewing at all? even when you are asleep? hamster teeth are AMAZINGLY long as normal... unless she stops eating or is having problems eating she's fine... she's onyl 20 weeks old... she's a baby it may be that she just isnt a chewy hamster... a couple of mine grew out of it...

Shes adorable BTW...

You can try to put sandpaper on the wheel. It worked for Kiba and her pads weren't irritated.

If they are curly however, you best be bringing her to the vet!

With the teeth, she is probably fine.

I'd recommend taking her to the vet for nail clippings, they can also file down her teeth. I normally just give my hammies dog biscuits (milkbone) so they will gnaw on that and file them down herself.

okay..thanks for your advice. i was going to take her anyway...just as a check up type of thing. but her teeth seem fine..and her nails are long enough for me to know that it HURTS me when she crawls on me. they seem like they are starting to curl.but not to the extreme.

cutting hammie nails can be stressful.... try the sandpaper or ball first if you can... jsut dont let her eat the sandpaper! best to buy one for birds as are non toxic... but sand would be a bad thing te eat lol

at a few months old her nails are hardening... and they do sound a little long... butn i would emphasise how stressful it can be.... espcially for a wriggler.. x

Once they start curling they need to see a vet, sandpaper won't help anymore.
