Recently, I saw a pair of love birds in the pet shop. I love them.
They cuddle together when they sleep. Each one rest its head on the other's body when they sleep. They nibble each other. They hop around together.
It's such a warm and happy feeling to see such warmth in animals.
I hope to hear more from other members who keep love birds.
What is the actual animal name for love birds?
Is it easy to take care of them?
How long is their life span?
Thanks!

lovebirds are very cute little birds, I have female peach-faced lovebird, her name is Pettie(cause original owners thought it was a boy) lol, anyways she was badly abused mostly emotionally by previous owners who had a buncha kids, that kept running around the cage, screaming, banging on cage with hands and other objects, obviosly under so much stress, the bird began acting violently and plucking the feathers, which soon turned in horrible addiction, to the point where the bird chewd a wound on the back, so the people thought the lovebird was too ugly and decided to throw her outside, to let her go, but being not very smart they thought they bird would live, so of course I had to take in the bird, thats the 2nd time I'm rescuing their pet (they wanted to throw their parakeet too) , these people are so irresponsible, they get pets and cant tace care of them!! it frustrates me soo badly!!, they got a chow-chow few years back, that they liked as pup, but now that the dog is all grown, its untrained, jumps on everyone, is dirty and hungry, spends all his life on short chain, in ugly small s, where he can walks in his own waste and mud for few meters, its terrible, I wanted to take the dog myself, but couldnt, Why do they even bother getting pets if they cant handle them? its useless to explain, an as an old saying says" Show me your animal, and I'll tell who you are", its so true, they themselves lead messed up lives, truly reflects on how they treat their pets, currently they have 2 rabbits, one with broken ear(littlekids playing to hard), or maybe those rabbits are dead by now, me moved to other state dont know....
Sorry I'm talking so much, its just hard...
Back to your lovebird questions:
I'm not sure about lovebird's scientific name, but there are different types on lovebirds, different colors, I think the most popular and most common are peach-faced:

Masked:

and Fischers:

I find it pretty easy to take care of my lovebird, or birds in general, things that u should know: 1)Lovebirds are not reccomended for begginer bird owners,2) they are very loud, 3) They bite big and it hurts(personal experience) therefore not best for families w/ kids, and 4) they are messy, will throw food around and spill water.
and lastly lovebirds live 15-30 years, a lot of commitment.:agree:
But lovebirds if trained well and socialized daily, make wondeful pets, my own birdie Pettie, is recovering well from previous stress and her feathers are growing and the wound has healed, heres a pic of Pettie: :D
