Hamster not doing anything

So i got a hamster 3 days ago, he is a syrian and he is older then the other hamsters in his cage, and he looked like he had been there a while so I decided to get him. The first day he played in his wheel. Since then all he has done is eat and sleep, he doesnt do anythign else, he has a few toys in his cage and he doesnt use them. I wake up several times in the night and he is still sleeping. I havent really played with him yet but i have held him. i wanted him to get used to his cage first. Is this a problem that all he does is sleep and eat?

I don't think it's a big issue right now, he is still adjusting to his new home. Take him out and let him run around in his ball if you have one or play with him with toys, it might get him more active.

So i tried putting him into his ball and he got really scared and started squeaking so I put him back into his cage and he fell back to sleep...hmm..maybe he is just really lazy or something..

i'm willing to bet he is simply terrified. wait until he gets used to his environment. :)

yes i recon you should leave him for about a week...let him settle in more then start to try and tame him/play with him etc.

He'll get used to his new home, and settle in and start to investigate his toys. As he becomes more curious he'll be more confident about testing out the ball and stuff. Try not to reach down and grab him from the cage, leave your hand in there and let him sniff it. If he doesn't see your hand coming he will get frightened!

Well he was the oldest. He was the last of his litter and they added like 5 other baby hamsters with him, and he looked atleast 2 months older then the babies. I knew that when they start to get older they fight so yeah.

it took my hamster SOOO long to get used to his new environment. it even urinated on me. it was DI-SGUSTING. keep in mind, i probably deserved it. i snuck my hammie in.

I'm sorry but that was funny...especially how bad hamster urine smells.....
when I get new hammies I leve them undisturbed other than changing water in our spare bedroom for 4 days before even attempting to bother them

yeah i learned to do that the first time my oreo peed on me. i smelt SOO bad, and it felt WARM. i cant believe u were laughing at me. actually i can. hi im kaelynn. nice to meet u.

just leave 'em alone, and u will remain non-smelly. (assuming u shower more than once a year)

Yeah it's an old family name it's actually pretty easy to say the "r" in Tarsha is silent so it just sounds like Tasha-Marie when you say it.
It sucks evertime I have a new professor they never get it right because they read it before they hear it LOL

yea that would suck. my name is pronounced "kay-lin" so people at school, and teachers, they sometimes start calling me katelin, or kayla. im like..dude..its kaelynn..NO T. i get so mad sometimes. theres this guy in my brother's class named Dunni..the class last says Dannie..and everyone calls him Dannie. I dont know how he handles it, hes in grade 2 and i would get SO MAD.

Natash and Tarsha are two totally different names. They don't even originate from the same country.
Actually It's not too bad around here with thMassachusetts accents most people have they don't say their "r" as a rule (however they pronuciation of m name is supposed to be silent no matter where I am, That's the way it was intended).
But it's uslually teachers or people who wnat to appear overly educated that over annunciate words and con not comprehend they're doing it worng.
Actually when I was working on my Bachelors degree I had a girl try to tell me that I mis-pronunced my own name and it was because I was a "Mass-Hole" as many jokingly refere to people who were born and raised in Massachusetts. I told her that is was my name and she was actually wrong and she could go talk to my Jaju who's right off the boat how my name is pronunced in the old country.

everybody should b proud of me. i had to move heaven and earth........lol. actually..all i had to do was get up and use the phone, but it takes alot of strength. HAHA. :) ;)
everything should b okay..at least, i hope it does anyway. what if i have to give him a shot every day for 2 months! i couldn't do that! and anything external, like a cream, he could lick off...i may have to give him a shot..but i just don't want to do it wrong, and i dont want him to scream at the top of his lungs! my sister's gerbil got its tail stuck in the side of his cage, and the end came off..it was screaming and crying and the tail was all bloody. it was so sad. you have no idea. she wanted to take him to the vet, but there was no point. hes better now..his tail has healed..the end has fur on it now. ;)

Gerbils tails will fall off if you pull on them or if they get hurt, it's just like that with gerbils. You have to be super careful.

Mites come and go, I myself have never had that problem at all. If you have any other pets make sure they are mite free, because normally cats and dogs or other animals bring them into the house, other than that keep the area clean and change the bedding every 2 days or so.

yep, they can. i have heard of cases of mites originating from new animals, bags of bedding, etc. they're annoying little boogers when they show up. luckily i have not had to deal with mites myself but have witnessed a few cases at shelters that were left untreated until the animal arrived there. it was NOT pretty. :(
