I think you misjudge and generalize.

Of course, maybe I'm biased because I've impulse bought twice. Even in those circumstances, both of those pets are still here and still being well cared for.

You really rave at people quite a bit, especially about guinea pigs that are solitary, and talk to them like they are bad or stupid people. Give people a little credit.

My first two guinea pigs and rabbit were impulse buys, they didn't have a great start in life as I didn't research. But look at me now! My pets have a great life, all the veg they can eat, huge cages, lovely hay, vet care when needed.

Yes it is annoying when people don't bother researching, however instead of shouting at them about it why not help them instead?

I agree with Rachy.

My guinea pig is solitary for the time being, but it does have stimulation and I do make up for it as best I can by socializing it with myself.

My first rabbit was an impulse buy but I got on the web immediately after I got home to research more on how to care for him and I found lots of good advice on here and now I have 3 bunnies that all live happy lives with me.

People do impulse buy sometimes, but that doesn't mean they won't do what they need to as soon as they get back home with their new friend. And then, you never know, they may wind up the best parent ever.

I see this a lot at work, people come in with their kids and want to buy <insert small furry pet here>. If its a day when I can I try to make sure they know 100% what they are getting into (IE trying to talk them into 2 g pigs or 2 gerbils) My co workers all disagree with this because they don't believe animals can be lonely (one of my ferrets freaks out if she doesn't see me for a day).

Its not so much the peoples fault, its the petstores

"""sigh. I went to petsmart, and it appears the teenage customers appear to be petdumb aswell. They pointed at a hamster, asking thier boyfriend if they can get a gerbil
