well, it seems my little waylon has either had a stroke or has suffered some nerve damage. the vet cannot be sure but i noticed him dragging his hind legs together when he came out of his house. i rushed him off for an exam and we're both thinking a stroke is the likely culprit. however, his is using one of his legs now and falling over on the other. luckily he does not seem to be in any pain, is eating and drinking normally, just as bright as ever but falls over on his right side. i'm hoping he'll regain his motor skills. i'm keeping an eye on him and as long as he seems to be getting along fine i'll keep babying him. please send along some good vibes for my little blue mottled boy. :(:hamster2:

Oh no dwan that's awful! I'm sure he's going to be just fine, especially with your care. Weird that Waylon's ill just after Macbeth passed, I always thought our boys were similar. I just know Waylon's going to make a full recovery though. Give him a treat from me :goodvibes:

well, things are looking better this morning. :) he's as crabby in the mornings as ever and his brothers are doing a nice job keeping him comfy. he's still dragging one of his legs and his hind end on his right side seems lifeless, but it's not slowing him down. he's much better from yesterday and i'm still hopefuly he'll regain some form of motor skill in the leg. ugh. what a day. :(
animalmagic: you're thinking about merle. lol waylon is my little blue mottled ruby eyed boy. merle is still a healthy, handsome old man. :)

No no, I wasn't thinking of a specific ham, just the fact that we both have trios of boys and yours remind me of mine :)
That's great that he's looking better today though! Go Waylon! :goodvibes:

Good luck Waylon on your recovery (((HUG)))
On a happy note for you both, I have had a mouse and a syrian that both had strokes and they both recovered really really well. It took time and patience but they both got there in the end.

nope, stevie was a syrian and my little waylon is a campbell boy. he lives with his two campbell "brothers" (tankmates from different litters). all i can figure, and my vet agrees, is he had a stroke, but luckily it wasn't severe enough to horribly disable him or kill him. he seems to be pulling through. *crosses fingers*

waylon is doing MUCH better. :D he's a bit wobbly on his legs still but he seems to be regaining movement in his hind leg and is up about, eating and glaring at his brothers like his old self. when i pick him up his hind end is still stretched out and stiff but he seems well. i'm thinking he just may pull through. :)
we also have a new addition as of today. my mother suggested that an empty cage on my nightstand seemed to be waiting for somebody who needed it. since the pet store in the next town is closing i decided little stevie would like another ham to have a good home. i adopted a little black eyed white boy, 7 weeks old who is nameless. i'll be posting pics as soon as he's settled in. right now he's quite skittish so it may take a few days. stay tuned! :)

thanks so much everyone. i miss stevie terribly but i'm sure she'd like me to give another ham a home.
the new little boy's name is officially cash. :) i figure he needs to fit in with the other boys in my room so i now have waylon, willie, merle and cash. only us old folks will probably catch the references. :D

Hehe, nice name for the new addition, I wish you good luck with him! I get the name. It all has to do with Willie Nelson and his recordings with certain people. I'm a big music fan! :D I'm not an old folk tho, only 20 :-| "The Highway Men" to be more exact I think. You are missing Kristofferson, guess you need another ham ham :) (hope I got the whole thign right, tell me if i'm wrong)

hehe...yep, you're right, i'm missing kristofferson but i figured it would be a long name for a ham plus, if i were to name one kris i'd be gritting my teeth saying it as my ex was named chris. lol they (minus merle haggard) were all highwaymen but they're also my favorite individual recording artists as well since i'm a diehard classic country/folk singer. i'm 24 myself but about 65 at heart. :D they're named after willie nelson, merle haggard, waylon jennings and johnny cash.

Oooh they come on Thursday? How exciting! That's so great. Tomorrow I am calling the lady who runs the small animal rescue in my area to look into rehoming two baby Campbell boys for Othello. I hope she has some! He looks like he misses his buddy.
Only problem with that is, when I go down I know I'll end up doing something silly like bringing home another Syrian. I'd love to but my mother might *actually* kick me out. LOL.

:D tell me about it. when my father got in today he asked how everyone was. mom informed him that stevie had passed but then she told him about cash. he just looked at her and said, "does this stop at any point?" :D mom says we're bringing home the rats and not telling dad they're here. he just may move out.

06-27-06, 03:12 PM 06-27-06
ooo...Dwan never saw your location b4, you're canadian like me. As for the ex thing, thats hilarious! You should totally get another and name it Chris! It's funny! As for the ratties, that awesome and dads are normally cool about these things even though they act like they aren't.
dwankrista
06-27-06, 04:00 PM 06-27-06
oh yes, my dad acts like he despises my critters but i know he loves them. well, he tolerates them. since i moved back home to do my fieldwork he's been overwhelmed with my furry family. the only animal i have that i know he despises is my pony, cisco. it's mainly because they've hated each other since the day cisco was born and my father says he's his nemesis. :D cisco knows dad is petrified of him so he picks on him and threatens to kick him and stuff, just to freak him out. it's funny as heck to watch.
as for the whole canadian thing, i'm a newfoundlander and a bit of an independentist so, if anyone asks if i'm canadian i have to disagree. it's the anthropologist in me i suppose that makes me call canada a colonialist nation and newfoundland it's colony. lol i have a tendency to be a little independentist when it comes to anything regarding newfoundland's sketchy and very questionable joining into confederation with canada.

When I still lived at home my dad constantly said no more animals. My mom and I always got more it seemed. We did a lot of foster care for local shelters and we adopted a lot of the animals we fostered. When I was younger we had a cat for 8 months before my dad caught on that it was there to stay.
He doesn't try to act like he doesn't like them. He loves the animals too once they're in.
I had a dog that I tried to take to college with me and my dad called daily asking when I
'd return his dog LOL. The dog was a birthday present I got in 7th grade but my dad considered her his. We used to argue about it all the time (Jokingly argue)

oh yes, we're all suckers for animals too. even the strays in the neighbourhood adopt us and yes, we're always taking them in. :D
tia, i like terms that weren't used to imply that the people of our province are substandard in intelligence, lazy, and put on earth to fill the labour requirements of alberta's oil fields. the n-word is a word created by others to refer to the people of the province in a less-than-endearing way. there's a strong independentist movement here at the moment second only to that of the quebecois. i guess you can only kick the dog for so long before it bites back. :D

well, since this has been bumped up i figured i'd best be updating everyone on waylon. my little boy is almost 100% back to his old self. :) he's regained the use of both back legs and the only remaining side effect from his stroke is a chattery lower jaw. however, this is slowly inproving as well. he's packed on the weight he lost and is being his wonderful little self again, terrorizing willie for all he can and snuggling with merle. thanks everyone for the well wishes and good vibes. :)
