I don’t know a lot about dwarf hamsters, but I don’t think they bite that much from what I read. The advantage to owning a dwarf is that they usally can live together in groups.
You can not keep teddy bear hamsters (which I believe are Syrians) together in the same cage. They must live alone or they will fight.
All hamsters can bite especially if the are afraid or startled. It depends on their personalities and if they are used to you but I wouldn’t say they bite often. Also, if they think your fingers are food they could bite. This has happened to me before. I hope this helps.

Handle your hamster often, this way your hamster won't be startled by you wanting to play with him. One of my hamsters, Minnie was very nervous when I got her, eventually she got used to me wanting to pick her up and play with her. I don't have hamsters anymore though, but I still think they are wonderful little creatures. :agree:

Teddy bears (and pandas and snowbears) are all syrians. Syrians CANNOT be in the same cage together. Dwarfs, yes- usually. Sometimes even they might not get along.
I have a theory that dwarfs are possibly a little harder to socialize with humans becuase of their tnedency to cling to other hamsters. Syrians, on the other hand, seem quicker to bond with people. This I'm sure is not an absolute truth- just my impression from other hamster owners and the few dwarf hamsters I have met in person. Social tendencies, in any case, are second to disposition and you're own confidence and determination to make friends.
Rodentboy made a long list a while back of do and don'ts about hand-taming. I think it was on a post called My hamster is being mean to me.
Are you new here? Welcome if you are! Welcome anyway, or hello at least, becuase I don't think we've met. I'm Ginia. Are you getting a hamster? This is a great place to learn about them- I've learned a lot here- more than all the books and websites I researched combined before getting my hamster. SHe's Cream Soda, by the way, CS for short- A black eyed satin cream syrian.
