Does any one here own a gaited horse- or a gaited cross. If not has any one ridden one before. Ive worked horses at a gaited horse farm in the past (Tennesse walkers, pasos, rocky mountain horses, missouri foxtrotters) and my horse is half paso fino, though she is built more like a lean/long legged appendix QH. She does the Paso Largo regularly, the corto sometimes, and she also does walk\trot\canter\gallop, ive trained her in all the gaits but the corto (which we are working on), which she has trouble holding because of her un-paso like conformation. Just wanted to know about any one elses gaited horse experiances or related stuff.

My horse, Storm is a Standardbred. Standardbreds are harness racing horses. They are raced in two groups based on which gait they do. There are Pacers and Trotters. Storm is a Pacer. It's so amazing to watch. He holds his head up, he lifts his feet and throws his shoulder! It looks really cool to watch from a front view. He also does a run walk gait. He has never done this with me on him. My dad says it feels like he is not even moving but he is. He said it was like floating on air.

That sounds so amazing! What does his pace feel like (if he does is while your on him)? Was he a former racer? Ive seen standardbred racing before and its incredible how fast they can go!

I have never let him do it. So, since I restrain him from doing it, it's really bumpy. I know it seems crazy to not want him to do it but, it's all he wants to do. So, we have been trying to teach him not do this unless we ASK him to. But, I have thought alot about it in the past few days and, when I get home ( I am at my Grandma's house this week and I'll be home Saturday) I'm gonna try to find a safe place on the property to take him and just give him his head! I'm gonna let him gallop or pace or whatever he wants! I just hope I live throught it! Lol. He has been much more submissive with me when I lead him though, which makes me more confident about this decision.
