Hi there!!!
I decided to change cages.
Even though I got Sugar a hut to sleep in she wanted to sleep in the wheel and it was not easy to get her.
Sooooo I decided to change from this:
http://www.answers.com/topic/hamster-gerbil-pink-princess-castle-lg-penn-plax-31k-
To this:http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Crittertrail_Hamster_Cages.html
*Scroll down to the fifth cage... It's called Crittertrail3*
Anyway... It's L16''xW10.5''xH22.5''... Soooo, that's like a ten gallon turned on it's side.
And, I bought the Crittertrail2 (on that link... it's the one above Crittertrail3) planning on linking it to Ct3.
But, since Ct3 is so big I thought maybe I didn't have to link on Ct2...
Do you think I should still add it???
Thanks,
Ashley

It is a big cage but there''s not a lot of running room/ floor space because like you said it's like a 10gal on it's side. Besides sugar is a syrian and you'd want bigger than a 10gal if you went the aquarium rooute. I'd link them together.
I bet she'll love it, if you can do some neat stuff with the tubes linking the cages. You'll have a blast watching sugar and she'll LOVE it.

I honestly never liked the crittertrail cages because they are usually hard to clean and don't have enough running room but good luck to you and your ham.

What I did was I put a bubble funnel up at the top... but it's not really a ''running'' area.
I will link the two cages together using a long funnel I originally bought.
The only thing is my table is not long enough! I'll have to rig something...
I post pics ASAP!!!
Thanks so much!
P.S. Tia, I have Sugar potty-trained to go in a litter pan... it's so funny to watch her crawl in and go!
All I have to do is change the bedding weekly, wash the bottom, and wipe off the bars and shelves.
Actually, the whole unit has stayed cleaner (It's already been 3 days!) than the last one... I thought she'd atleast be bringing seed up onto the shelves, but she hasn't!! I love this one, and it seems really secure.

Hey you potty traind sugar that's great it's soooo much easier than most people think. Well just wanted to let you know critter trail makes a potty called an "out house" that connects to the tubes. I love them and so do my guys

Really.
Mine has a lid that pops off and comes with litter and a scoop.
At first I thought it would take some effort to get her to use it... but all I did was put a piece of bedding from the other cage that she peed on... and a couple of poopies... and presto!!! Easy as that! The litter says it's specially formulated, too.
It's easy!:hamster2:

you realize that she will still propbably poop other places too but will generallly pee only in there right? Just wanted to know.
what kind of litter do you use? cat litter is not a good idea (sound like you use some thing specific for hasmster just an fyi though)

Wow bubblz... I know my post is really old, but I just wanted to tell you that it's specially formulated for hamsters and gerbils by Superpet company... they make the litterbox and the litter... so it comes with it, and then you can buy it seperate... if that makes any sense... :scratches head:
Oh... and she poops in there too!! I still change the Carefresh once a week, though.

Is it the purple and pink dome-ish looking thing with two holes? if it is I have that one too....LOL....
I just like the outhouse how it's actually outside of the cage. Besides I can see if one used it again so I can keep it super clean. They get clened constantly.

Ya... it comes it different colors, though, so I have teal and yellow... it matches with the cage better.
I take mine out and clean it, too... but yours sounds cool and spacious...
Do you have Crittertrail or some other sort of link-cage??

i have the outhouses attached to my crittertrails. i find that my hamster just peed in their for a while then stopped. im glad you were able to potty train yours. it sounds so much easier b/c i still have to clean out the entire cage more frequently b/c it gets soiled fast.

Yes... I dearly love it!
At first I though, ''No way... you can potty train a hamster?'' But it has worked!!

Yeah I have CT's. I love the potties they rock my world LOL.....I had a harder time potty training my dwarfs than my syrian. The dwarfs like to use them as beds I had to attach two to each dwarf setup. One they use as a potty and one they sleep in. My syrian now also has one he sleeps in too now LOL
