Ummm, I don't think so.... The only wood shavings bedding that is okay for hamsters is aspen.

That is okay meaning that doesn't have enough dust particals to cause an upper respitory infection. I'd recommend yesterdays news or carefresh, other than aspen.

Where you getting the cherry shavings from? I actually think it would be ok, the branches of fruit trees are ok for hamsters to chew on so i can see them making dangerous beddings..

It's a very good point made Moo, but I'd be concerned if these branches were sprayed with chemicals or if they are shredded so much there is a dust factor. more information is needed please.

cherry is different from the fruit cherry tree. i would be a little worried because i know cherry has a strong scent like cedar. if you have aspen available i would use that and not risk the cherry

Jess,
A Cherry tree shavings would be fine to use, I have some in my back yard that I let my hams chew on. I was worried you meant a different kinda cherry tree.
As for the scent, it isn't the scent that effects that hamster all that much, studies have proved it's the dust factor in which causes infections in Pine, Cedar and other bedding. If you want to save money though Jess, just use yesterdays news.
