hi everyone haven't talked on here for a while... anyways i'm really excited cause i just came back from my petstore... i went there just to look around but then i found this adorably ugly hairless hamster ans i felt bad for it so i got it out and fell in love with it!!! :D i love it so much so tommrow i'm gonna go back and get him:p i had a hamster that i raised for two years cause it was the runt of the litter and the mom was trying to kill it so i felt bad and i took care of him... but he just died like a month ago :( i'v always had like 2 or 3 hamsters ata time and now i have none so i'm excited to get another again and be a mom.. just thought i would tell everyone cause i'm really excited:p

and don't worry i love and take extra super care of all of them by letting them roam my room (not at the same time) and a lot of extra extra TLC

make sure he is kept on plain white toilet paper or tissues. shevings are too sharp for hairless animals and makes their skin sore, they also often have a lot of allergies too. oh yeah and no tubes! would be like sitting on a chair in shorts and your skin sticking to the chair, but would be constant for the hammy...

etc :p

LOL!!:D Makes me laugh when people name them names like that. I heard once that someone called their hairless cat Fluffy and also naming a black cat something like snowie is quite cute I think.

cotton beeding...is that really good for them? I figured they would either swallow it, it would get stuck in their cheek pouches or it would get wrapped around limbs and cause some serious issues. I dunno..maybe it's just me but I wouldn't use that.

hey TiaMaria!!!! thanks for your help earlier. BTW: I use cotton bedding. Is it bad for them? I feel really bad. really irresponsible because Oreo may have mites. Is there something I could have done to prevent the mites?

Cotton bedding really is bad for hamsters and i have seen the damage it can do when i worked in a petshop, i was lowly stadd and had no say in what bedding was used (however much i protested!) and i watched hamsters loose limbs or eat that stuff and die.... it really is terrible stuff...

As you have a hairless hammy, you are right about needing the softest bedding possible though. The best nest material for all hamsters (including hairless) is white, unscented toilet paper, it is really soft and they love chewing it up into a nest shape :)

Munkie, there isn't much you can do to prevent mites as they can come in on shavings or hay or food or any bedding, it is just bad luck and all you can do now is treat the problem and learn from the experiance :)

Any new pictures of mister wrinkles LOL.....Yeah I would use carefresh it's much softer than shavings. Cotton has a lot of down falls and could actually be fatal. I hate how they market things for a pet that could actually kill it grrr.

i heard that toilet paper would be a good idea for bedding. why is cotton bedding such a bad thing to use? its soft! wouldnt it be easier?

Cotton bedding is bad because it gets stuck around limbs cutting off circulation or maybe even their limb! It gets caught in cheek pouches which causes a lot of other very serious problems. If ingested, it will kill them because it can't properly digest in their stomachs and clogs the stomach and intestines. There is a lot more reason, please don't use cotton beeding at all!

mine is made for hamsters... it's really expenisive compared to the wood shavings i baught for my other hamsters but it isn't cotton it's kinda like really really thin shredded cardboard but it says the smell of it makes your hamster do what it would in the wild like with building and burrowing of which he has... he's built three different homes since i put it in there :) when i first put it in there he went nuts!!! he was like dragging through it and barrying himself in it. he loves it!!! yea i wouldn't use cotton just cuase i would be afraid he would choke on it..
