If everyone looks at my profile, they will see that I'm into Arabian horses and I breed, raise, sell, buy, trade, own, and train them. So this is why I have this question--

My question is that why do people give their Arabian horses unessessary loooong bridlepaths? They think that it makes their necks look nicer, but really it doesn't look that way to me. I think that it makes their necks look pencilly. You know, extra skinny. I'm not saying that all Arabian horse people do this, I know I certainly don't, but most do. For the people that do this on this forum, if there is any, why do you do it? I am curious to know why. Please respond and tell me all about it.

Thanks!

I know, I noticed that too, every single pic I see of arabian, their mane is half-way shaved, I wondered about that too, and yes it does not look very attractive..

well maybe its the way to identify breed, but I think u can easily spot an arabian due to their distinctive look. Bytheway i love your quote that u put in your signature, thats just like me, I can spend hours cleaning horse stalls, but hate cleaning my room, my mom constanly makes jokes about it..lol

Most do it to show the head off more.

I always trimmed bridlepaths on my horses. I don't show or anything, and soon realized, why am I doing this? The hair grows so fast, it was like an endless battle! So finally one day, I stopped! Now, own Tennessee Walkers, and they are all "O' Naturale". My Billie girl has a nice thick flowing mane. And really, the halter or bridle does not have any problem fitting.

As the angle of the jaw to the neck is very important in judgeing arabian horses it's done to show off this angle.

I don't have arabians, but I do know why it's done. It's to show of thier necks more clearly. If the mane covered the neck completely judges would have a hard time seeing the conformation. The neck of the arabian is what help sets it apart from other breeds, so they try to show that off as much as possible.

i heard that it is to show off their long necks...the 'new' arabian conformation, you want a long nice arced neck and cutting their manes help give you that 'illusion'.
