Well.... My dwarf Ginger Bear decided she was superhammie today:

I took G.B (her nickname) out of the cage in preparation of Running Around on the Freshly Made Bed (AKA out-time). I put her down and watched as she scurried in that cute hamster way, stopping her when she came too close to disaster. i, however, would have NEVER forseen what she did next. G.B is well known for her never-ending stubborness when it comes to not being able to go somewhere. She has gotten lost and found twice so far and both times was because she just wouldn't take You Can't Go There as an answer.

Well, she started at the middle of the bed and scurried right off the end! She flew, I swear, two feet before landing on the floor. I managed to pick her up during her dazed period. If I hadn't been watching her so closely she probably would have gone missing AGAIN!

I've known some wierd animals in my lifetime but now I can finally say I had SuperHammie!

Aww poor thing. That reminds me of the squirrel that thought it could take on a V8 dodge truck, head on, or the rabbit that thought it could walk threw car tires.

I certainly don't know what could be wrong with her. She once jumped off my hand while I was standing up. It's only a matter of time until she hurts herself.

I would be more careful with her from now on if she is going to be like that.

I was holding her to my chest with both hands loosely clasped around her body and she just jumped. On the bed she was running to the end and I was getting ready to put my hand near the edge so she wouldn't try and slide down it like both of them do when she went faster and went right off into the air. I can't see how I could be anymore careful.

I'm shocked at the difference in some hamsters! Currently Nameless is so mellow and Ginger Bear is a demon!!!

I geuss I now officially have my own shoulder angel and shoulder demon...

Lol. My cat Socks jumped off the bed once, and he hit the wall head on and knocked himself out.

Yeah, I have a mellow and evil hamster too.

But then again... every hamster's goal is to escape...

Haha, Opie did that once, except, he didn't fly.

But I had him on my bed and whenever he gets too close to the edge I either make a noise and say, "Opie, NO!" and he here's me and comes back to me, or I pick him up and put him into the middle again.

So, that time, I picked him up and put him into the middle, but he ran RIGHT back to the same edge and he put both front paws down the side and he tumbled over. I caught him in mid-air! And he was all like, "What?! Woah, where am I?!" He was so CUTE! :D

All pets seem to have a phase where they think they are indestructible. Ginger Bear has it all the time. G.B is also the only one of my hammies to TRY and fall off the bed repeatedly.

haha. its weird. my hammie oreo..he climbs the sides of his cage to the top and then drops..and its gotta be at least a foot that he drops..ALSO, i was holding him when i first held him in the pet store, he cuddled against me, then jumped 4 feet to the floor. it was priceless. then when i got him home..the little rugrat peed on me. :D lol. ;)

i shouldnt worry about her too much... my first ever hammie was like that... lulu thought she was indestrutible... jumped off of couches... shoulders... coffee tables... the vet lol... the top of her very expensive but none the less not hamster proof critter tower... i used to freak out completely every time she dropped... but i think she knew which drops she could do safely... i think maybe one of her ancestors mated with a chipmunk... she was flipping fast... one minute she'd be in your lap politly coveirng you in peanut shell... and she could literally be halfway up the curtains before you could move.... ironically after attacking a bird, beatign up the dog in her ball regually and causing as much mayhem as possible she went quietly in her sleep at about two and a half... not bad for a pet shop ham...

Pillows wont solve anything she'll just climb up and jump off.

Well, pillows make it harder for them to climb up and it takes longer. So instead of the hamster escaping or jumping off the bed right away, when it starts to climb up a pillow, you just take them off and put them in the middle again.

i suppose so :p

Yes, see! or put pillows on the floor, that way, if she falls, she fall on something squishy :) Apart from the dog! Lol

Well, I think if Ginger Bear discovered she could jump off without hitting something hard she'd do it over...and over... and over... and then she'd try to run away once she got over the shock of hitting them... Yeah, Ginger Bear is quite crazy that way.

That would be funny, put her on bed, she falls off, put her on bed, she falls off, put her on bed, she falls off, put her on bed, she falls off. LOL!

Wow...that made my head spin, picturing you put her on bed, she falls off, put her on bed, she falls off, put her on bed, she falls off, put her on bed, she falls off.

It DOES get annoying, she just does it everytime she goes near the edge; I pick her up, put her in the middle, she goes right back there.

My guinea pigs contemplate it when ever I put them on the bed. My syrian has a little more commen sence though.

Hahaha, it's so cute though! That's what Opie does. He goes to the edge and then tries to climb down, but then I pick him up and put him back into the middle, and then, as if he NEEDS to jump off, he goes right back to the SAME EXACT EDGE, of the bed and it's so cute and funny! Just the way he waddles/runs! :D

BarkingPup
08-02-06, 08:37 PM 08-02-06
I almost wish I had a syrian just so it would be a larger target. Ginger Bear DOES NOT GIVE UP! When I say no, she says Go.

like today when I opened the door to their cage and ZOOM! there was Ginger Bear trying to climb it and get out. Currently Nameless, however, is the one who comes out first so I took her out and closed the door. Ginger Bear still tried to escape by chewing the bars and climbing the vertical door...

Lol, my hammie always wanted to get of the edge, he also did weird things like, instead of getting to the secone lvl by using the pipes, hed climb vertically, also there was one door he could always open, sooo it wired it shut! lol he used to climb the top bars too! (so he was hnging!) lol that was funny, some times he fell off too, its 3 stories high!

Some hammies are just odd in their facination with heights. Considering they love to burrow its very strange.
